capitalism is meant to suck the soul out of you and work you into the GROUND. it's how the gov creates soulless people that don't have the capacity to care about anyone but themselves. everyone's too tired and too concerned about their own needs being met to think of anyone else.
but people are meant to be chillin with the homies, reading books, creating art -- enjoying life!! all without the pressure to commodify their hobbies or stress about working a 9-5 just to (sometimes barely) survive!
so i've found that just accepting the fact that it's ok to not be productive is sort of a mini revolution. it gives more meaning to life than just going thru the motions of a 9-5. it gives you a larger capacity to care and form community with others, and that's something that the gov does NOT want (as seen this past year smh)

i feel like i gotta let myself be bored more. i freak out when i have nothing stimulating or nothing to do, but in a society that relies so heavily on productivity and buying stuff, how about i just let myself have nothing to do? and allow the feelings that come with it i guess. half the time im only doing things to show people i do things.

Sometimes I get in bed, Iāve done nothing but breathe, stay in place, and distract myself for the entire day, and I feel a pretty heavy weight thatās only gotten bigger as Iāve gotten older; you know that voice that says, āiāve got to do what this successful person did or i need to finally take that advice or i need to be PRODUCTIVEā. and in fact, I spent the whole day worrying so much about being productive that I didnāt do anything I really wanted to do in the first place. And thatās okay! We are not machines, weāre not broken or repaired, we just are. we are not measured by what we can produce, even though the society we live in wants us to feel that way soooo bad. Fuck that. find the love in the world and everything else will fall into place. be okay with doing nothing

2024 was my first year getting involved in my community. iāve always been a very anti-social/introverted person who relied a lot on my friends for social interactions outside of our immediate friend groups. but i went thru a break up last year because our political goals and ideas didnāt match up, and now im left alone to discover the wonders of my community.
i must admit i havenāt gone to any physical events YET, but it will be my first time this weekend (: iāve mainly been donating, going to educationals, and spreading the word on any mutual aid i can think of on IG. but i have been (machine) knitting beanies to distribute to the houseless while itās cold af outside! iāve made about 40-50 beanies now (also a great time for me to go down my letterboxd watchlist).
you get to interact with amazing people and help people who have been screwed over by our gov. but remember, mutual aid is not charity. its when we come together as a community to help people who need help, with no strings attached.
anyways, this is your sign to look at what you can do for your communities! i promise it's so worth the time and it's really changed my life and the life of those received aid

iāve never had a cat before and decided to adopt one this year. it took a long time for him to trust me since he was living on the street for the entire 5 month of his life, but eventually he grew to trust me and would take naps on top of me as i binge watched movies.
iāve always believed that to add value to your life, you need to be productive. i mean thatās how it is living in a capitalist society right? if youāre not working, youāre wasting your time. if youāre not commodifying your hobbies, youāre wasting your time.
but watching this kitten sleep all day changed my entire perspective on life somehow. i no longer feel bad about just relaxing and doing things i love (rotting in bed, watching movies while crocheting lol)
anyways i know this also comes down to privilege, and im v grateful i have my basic needs met. but doing the things you love and taking the time to relax is also a form of resistance in a society that loves to work people to death.
