the drink i make almost every morning that keeps me sane at work! i think everyone should try it once in their life, so here is the miso caramel recipe i use (-: no it doesn’t taste like you’re drinking miso soup. i use awase miso (it’s like a mix of red and white miso — i went through a lot to figure out which one i like the most). this one is a little saltier than just white miso like the recipe uses, but i find the slight saltiness helps tone down the sweetness of the caramel) also, after absolutely no barista training and 5 years of practice, i can finally do somewhat decent latte art

every time I visit friends in Williamsburg, we make the stop at Brooklyn Ball Factory for their tiramisu latte. if you live in NYC, you should visit; if you don’t care about coffee, they also have really yummy bento.  anyway, this latte haunts me. so this morning I realized I didn’t have any milk for my coffee (I just moved!), but I did have a tub of cottage cheese and Greek yogurt, which I know can be combined to mimic mascarpone.  I blended them together in a 3:1 ratio of cottage cheese and Greek yogurt with about 1 tablespoon of maple syrup, a dash of vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt until it formed a nice whipped texture. I gave it a taste and I’m happy to report it has that complex mascarpone flavor thanks to the tartness of the Greek yogurt!  I brewed some espresso and poured on the faux mascarpone topping, then messily added some cacao powder. If you find yourself without milk and in need of a fancy latte, try this and report back 🍰

My husband is and has been a barista for about a decade so I have been absolutely spoiled with his coffee-making and procuring skills. Since we moved we’re had very different schedules and he leaves for work before 6AM mon-friday. I work many weekends or go to church so there are only a rare few days out of a month that I get to wake up to one of his delicious pour overs. I am too lazy to put this amount of effort and devotion into a single cup of coffee for myself so I usually have instant coffee. My husband showed me how to make this easy little latte on days I want to treat myself. Lazy Man’s Latte Ingredients - 2 ts. instant coffee, tasters choice is by far my favorite - ~1TB jam of your choice. I used Bonne Maman peach preserves for this. You can also use a syrup but I like the little bit of texture jam adds. - Milk to fill your cup (idk bro depends on how much milk you want, make a cortado for all i care) Instructions 1. add roughly 1-2TB hot water to your instant coffee and pour into your serving glass over ice. 2. mix or froth milk and jam in a separate cup. if you want a hot latte skip the ice and gently microwave your milk before blending in your flavoring. 3. enjoy a drink that’s worse than what you’d get at a local coffee shop but better than a dunkin or starbucks for a fraction of the cost.

2024 was my first year getting involved in my community. i’ve always been a very anti-social/introverted person who relied a lot on my friends for social interactions outside of our immediate friend groups. but i went thru a break up last year because our political goals and ideas didn’t match up, and now im left alone to discover the wonders of my community. i must admit i haven’t gone to any physical events YET, but it will be my first time this weekend (: i’ve mainly been donating, going to educationals, and spreading the word on any mutual aid i can think of on IG. but i have been (machine) knitting beanies to distribute to the houseless while it’s cold af outside! i’ve made about 40-50 beanies now (also a great time for me to go down my letterboxd watchlist). you get to interact with amazing people and help people who have been screwed over by our gov. but remember, mutual aid is not charity. its when we come together as a community to help people who need help, with no strings attached. anyways, this is your sign to look at what you can do for your communities! i promise it's so worth the time and it's really changed my life and the life of those received aid
