There’s something about the quality of digital camera photos that make a picture of anything you take look more pleasing (to me anyway). The nostalgia, the saturation, I love them. I have a couple cameras that still work from when I was a kid, but I also bought one on eBay that was similar to one that used to be a favorite of mine. I just throw it in my purse and take it everywhere, and it’s so much more fun than trying to get the “perfect shot,” especially now that I’ve deleted Meta and gone with Pixelfed it seems that people love posting anything from the little things they see or their drinks. It’s making photo sharing fun again! Although, if you do download Pixelfed (which isn’t the point of this post but) I highly recommend using it in your browser on your phone for now, they’ve already made things run smoother from when I first downloaded but they’re definitely still working on the app.

i always say that a digital camera and flash ON is way better than a phone -- yes new phones have great quality, and the tool doesn't matter that much because a lot of artistic and fantastic projects were filmed with one, however nothing can replace a digital camera !! and honestly if it wasn't expensive i would've even just used a film camera on a daily basis and PRINT the picture, because a physical memory printed in a photo is just so BEAUTIFUL and can be cherished waay better than the 20K+ photos on my phone that i barely look back to.

la9atate agreed!! And I am also huge in printed pictures, I periodically print ones off my phone throughout the year and off my sd cards from my digital cameras. It takes up a lot of space though, I’ve repurposed several small boxes for storing them at this point lol.

That's a good looking martini! What gin?

arljjas Hendrick’s in this one, always a safe bet when I don’t know a bar’s entire gin list lol. I also love that you didn’t even ask if it was gin or vodka, because I will absolutely die on the hill that a martini should always be gin for it to really be a martini.

agreed on the digital camera. I got one of the Camp Snap cameras a year ago, I like it, though speed and image quality pretty rough. Fond memories of a Powershot I used to have. Genuinely don't know what I'm going to upgrade to, needs to be something pocketable. Considering an action camera.

mattshawsome I’ve seen people post some really nice quality shots from action cameras, definitely could be worth considering.

Without sounding like a bitter luddite, I miss the days of people capturing moments for the sake of remembering, not sharing with strangers. We all have childhood VHS footage and disposable photos of seemingly mundane moments at family BBQs, birthday parties, vacations, etc, but in the iPhone age most of our photos are taken with the intention of posting. This is a crucial difference, for me at least, so I recommend getting a camera not because it takes better photos than your phone, but because it'll remind you to capture more regular slices of life.

not even trying to be pretentious (long time readers will remember this one !) i just think it’s nice take silly sweet photos of my friends on a camera that may be fuzzy but captures my love for them and the joy of the situation much more than a hdr corrected iphone photo does. plugging the memory card into a reader into an adaptor into my laptop and receiving the photos give me the feeling of yes ! i am a university student ! and not an oh god ! i have so much debt ! i love my friends (see previous pi.fyis)

My dad is the same way so my childhood is like extensively and obsessively documented in photos, tens of thousands of them. I started taking his cameras and using them to take pictures of everything and anything that caught my eye or that I thought was interesting whether that was places, plants, animals, people, or random objects. I don’t really have a camera that I use now (i do have a shitty point and shoot languishing in a case somewhere) and i should probably get back on that as a hobby but I always make sure to get iPhone models with a zoom lens when it’s time to upgrade and I continue that habit of just snapping photos of everything that piques my interest and they’re automatically backed up to my Google Photos library!

So we all think it’s sketchy that Tik Tok is already back right? And that they posted a statement kissing Trump’s ass and making him out to be the one saving Tik Tok when he isn’t even sworn in yet? And now Trump wants the US government to have a 50% ownership, aka turning Tik Tok into state owned media just like I thought was happening. And I’m sure most people won’t be able to stay away from Tik Tok and Meta which is so disappointing. I want nothing to do with Tik Tok now because I know the app as we knew it is already gone at this point.

I’ve already read 48 books in 2025 while being on my flip phone, social media detox life. Yes, some of them were just trashy romance, but still. It’s been so nice to get back into reading for enjoyment again. It’s nice to be out and about and not have that constant urge to reach for a phone and check notifications. I don’t even have most social media apps downloaded on this anymore, I love this app though, and the urge to click on an app and doom-scroll is nonexistent. This brick of technology has really turned into my iPod and Kindle, and the occasional pop back on here.

So many people are so scared to do things on their own, but it can be so fun and liberating! I’m my own favorite travel partner. You can try fun places without worrying about what someone else is in the mood for, meet so many people, people watch, read, visit museums Or other stops and take all the time you want, etc. I think a lot of people care too much about what others think when they’re seen doing something or dining alone, but in the grand scheme of things it doesn’t matter. Starting out, go to a restaurant that has a bar and sit at the bar, you can enjoy your food and maybe a drink, if you get anxious about people talking to you or aren’t having fun people watching, take up watching the sports on the tv to look occupied! Or maybe your solo outing could first be taking yourself on a museum date and getting to spend as much time as you want in each exhibit.
