there is something so deeply intimate about knowing a person’s penmanship. you could know someone for years even but not know what their handwriting looks like. i had a coworker (turned friend) at my old job tell me how when she misses me she looks at the post-it with the passwords i had written for my work accounts. (sharing mine here bc in my head i’m friends with everyone who comes across this post. pi.fyi community has gotten me through some tough times last year and i love learning new things through people’s recs here!!)

I recently asked my mother what she thought about someone I’ve been seeing and her first gripe was “her handwriting slopes downward which means she might have depressive tendencies“…. Not sure what to make of all that but it give one something to think about

In a digital world it has become a rare treat to see your own handwriting, not to mention the handwriting of your friends and family. Maybe it’s been a while since you’ve seen it, maybe not. Think about new friends you’ve made and whether or not you know that about them- what their handwriting looks like. I feel like anxiety might be on the rise because so many people are in their heads while they’re on their phones. Handwriting (also journaling by hand) helps you slow down and get back into your body and in touch with the tactile tangible world around us. If you don’t particularly enjoy your handwriting, you could try to take it slow and practice. “Progress, not perfection“. You could get some sweet stationery and write a cute little note to yourself or someone else. If you love to text and want to get the point across immediately- I recommend writing a little note, taking a photo of it, and then texting it to someone. You could ask them if they want to send a note back to you in their handwriting, and then instead of bubbles with the same fonts you’re sending each other photos of instant unique handwritten notes.

Slow communication is what I think I was born for. The fact that people used to still be considered good friends but not know everything going on with each other until they maybe ran into them on the street is so beautiful to me. I think it really allowed for our internal worlds to develop and flourish while making those moments you share with others so much more meaningful. Anyhow I’m doing this with my friend who is moving to Kansas and it makes me so happy, I’m buying cute stationary for us. Maybe even a wax stamp maker.

People approach writing in the context of a letter differently and open up in more interesting ways and I think that’s cool

it still baffles me that there are people out there who heavily rely on chatgpt, maybe even have fully replaced google, to make the decisions for them. idk which is worse using chatgpt or tiktok as a search engine bc what the actual fuck ?? 😭
