Picked up ‘This Could Be Texas’ by English Teacher in June on vinyl, being home has meant a couple proper listens. Lily Fontaine has gotta be one of my favourite songwriters recently! Big feelings of heartbreak and heartache as she writes on her relationship with her home. In ‘Sideboob’, the landscape is this intimate moment, its kind of timid and precious, shared so deeply with the writer. “I’m your Boulsworth baby, You’re a giant to me“ really stuck out - when you’re walking somewhere so familiar it feels as if you are moulded to the environment - it’s yours, and the relationship is yours, and really no one else could understand that. But at the same time you’re just a moving part, a cog, a morning after. It’s good to feel that tenderness but its also good to be cautious of it, our hometowns are so easy to sink into it is hard to detach from everything. That’s what I love about English Teacher! They are all encompassing but still remain cautious of blindsiding nostalgia. The past is the past yet the environments you used to know will always be there, if YOU want to love them!

I think I tear up whenever music has a connection to heartbreak or loss or resentment. It’s weird (and beautiful) to know we get to partake in someone’s process of healing through a song they shared. It’s a brief moment of connection across the universe.

making a habit of over-indulging in things that are not so harmful to me. was at the pub and ate 3 oranges back to back. probably looked very strange but i got to put all the peel in a big pile and plus like endless food for 15 minutes. not even that big of a fan of oranges! but i enjoy the activity
