iβm spending the week in nyc this week so obviously as iβm walking the streets iβm reminded of all my fav flicks set in this city...
special effects was written/directed by larry cohen - one of the coolest and weirdest b-movie writer/directors. i love all of his 70s-80s movies. they have the craziest scripts, he casts weird background characters, and always delivers a vibe. heβs usually working on a small budget so thereβs a rawness and realness within his bizzaro worlds.
it stars a young eric bogosian (talk radio, uncut gems) playing an unhinged delusional director in the midst of making a very meta movie about a murder he committed. his loft in the movie is one of my fav sets ever. indoor stain glass windows, all red bedroom. iβm sure someone on here can tell me itβs precise location. it also stars zoe lund (ms. 45, bad lieutenant) - her accents, look, and range is unreal. i donβt wanna say too much and spoil the plot really, but if you dig movies about movies, brian de palma or abel ferrera stuff, then you should check this outβ¦

The superstition is this: on the first day of the month, one is supposed to say βRabbit, rabbitβ to ensure a month of good luck. I adore this superstition, like making a circle of protective salt around you for the entire 28, 30, or 31 days of a month. in theory, itβs supposed to be the first words you utter on that 1st day, but I make my life easier by just making sure I say it at some point during the day. I love superstitions, but I like also throwing in a bit of my own luck in there. So say βrabbit, rabbit,β why donβt ya? Iβll say it several extra times in honor of those who read this a little later on.

Yes I work in a cemetery. My favorite part is saying hello to the graves. Judy Garland, Johnny Ramone, Rudolph Valentino, Pee-wee Herman. Honestly, itβs a sweet tribute being around them. I make it a point to visit cemeteries in most cities I visit, but this one holds a special place in my heart. Itβs one of my top two.
