My go to for just a simple one question is if you were a bird what bird would you be. It’s really specific so it gives a clear topic to talk about but it’s still fun. Its also a good way to get to know someone by having them talk about themselves without putting them super on the spot. I think any question like this is more interesting than a “what do you do?”

Easy, a pigeon. I think I’ve seen a pigeon about everywhere I have ever been. At the beach, in the city, in the middle of nowhere. Those things are everywhere! I want to travel as far and as wide as a pigeon does

build yourself a roster of lighthearted yet thinky questions. some one mine: ”if you could suddenly speak any extra language, what language?” “are you a cowboy, pirate or knight?” (very telling) and my personal favourite, “if you were a weather phenomenon, what would you be?” (i’d be a sun shower, btw)

keep it light and whimsical. I was on a date a few years back and the person I was with asked me if I believed in luck, she said it was a question she asked everyone and it sparked an interesting discussion- “do you have good/bad luck” “do you know anyone with particularly bad luck“ etc. other questions that might be fun: -are you a cat or a dog (in essence, not preference) -what’s the furthest from home you’ve been? -ever seen a ghost?

Picture him running after a ping pong ball he dropped and not being able to catch it. I’ve heard that this works.

Recently I’ve been obsessed with the movie 3 iron. it’s written and directed by Kim Ki-duk and it’s absolutely mesmerized me. Most of the film has no dialogue but when I was watching it at first I didn’t even notice. The emotion and suspense is entirely carried by the narrative and the acting. It’s a movie that really captures my focus when I watch it and it’s definitely one that I like to rewatch to reanalyze what I think is going on. Romantic, eerie, kinda comforting 10/10.

Kind of a lie cause I did rewatch it once (when I was sick for some reason) and I cried so hard I couldn’t breathe. Beautiful movie, don’t regret seeing it and i probably will watch it again someday, when I have someone else to subject to the torture, but I think that day is far into my future. It’s one of studio Ghibli’s best movies but its hard bringing yourself to watch something you know is so painful to see. When I watch it the moment I start crying I don’t stop till after it’s over.
