Currently for a full stack project i am working on at work, we use VS Code for most of it. It’s fairly clean looking, and the extensions and debugging capabilities are quite streamlined

+1 vscode native support for most languages is p awful but the extensions for languages make the experience substantially better. i think the learning curve to using a more lightweight ide if you’re used to eclipse or a jetbrains editor can be uncomfortable but long term vscode is just so sleek, responsive, and versatile it’s worth the time investment

Cursor

VSCode was my main text editor and I started using Cursor this week, which is based on VSCode. It contains a lot of LLM features which makes my job a lot easier. I like writing code but there is a lot of tedious tasks when it comes to writing imports, testing and refactoring and a lot of googling to figure out solutions for different stuff that AI helps take care of. Hopefully it won’t take my job!

Learning how to code

Dudes in tech don’t want you to know that learning how to code can actually be super easy and fun. It opens up a whole new world of creative projects! It’s honestly wild how we’ve made STEM subjects feel like they’re way harder to master than others, or that they’re all just about cold logic while creative stuff is for “artsy” types. Learning to code reminded me so much of learning to play an instrument — if you just put in like 10 minutes a day, you’ll see progress fast. Plus, once you get the hang of the technical rules, there’s so much room for creativity.
