Recently I've gotten into collecting physical media, more specifically movies. Pictured is a DVD, but I mostly collect Blu-ray due to the massive leap in quality from DVD. I find so much stuff that lets me appreciate the weird things I like even more!
I never knew the Ace Attorney film was released on physical in Australia and here it is! I found a Blu-ray copy of the semi-obscure indigenous Australian musical Bran Nue Dae in a second-hand shop and nearly cried because of the memories I had watching it in high school film class (Shoutout to my favourite teacher Ms. McLaughlin!).
I adored the film adaptation of Wicked and it recently came out on rental services like Prime and Apple TV, but I've decided to hold off from paying the 30 bucks to "own" a movie digitally and instead wait for the physical! I love this stuff, and even as physical media seems to die off I think I'll be collecting these for as long as I love film.

I canโt recommend it enough tbh. I went in there to return a few I had rented last week and got to spend 10 minutes lost in the shelves, just searching through films. There is such a great feeling of comfort I get by being surrounded by so many physical reproductions of the medium I love so mucchhh. Itโs like my version of a museum.

The best way to watch new movies is to get physical movies for cheap! This can be from thrift stores, flea markets, yard sales and nice record stores (reckless records always has criterion collection movies). Paying just a little bit of cash makes you want to watch and appreciate the movie more!

In 2024 I'm cancelling as many streaming services as I can and turning to the video store instead. I'm a member at Videotheque and Vidiots in LA.
1. I find my watching to be way more intentional renting a DVD or Blu-Ray. I have to return it so I have to watch it and this is what I picked.
2. The browsing is much more pleasurable in person than the dang scroll! You can pick up a bunch of stuff and put it back when you figure out what you want.
3. If I pay late fees I feel like I am making a charitable donation.
4. Video store clerks are so cool!

As the title suggests, Kanye was always one of my problematic faves but I think he's kinda became annoyingly problematic and comically evil to the point that he's lost me. I still listen to his old stuff though. I often don't realise how much I listen to it still until I see my last.fm stats.
It's kind of undeniable that he's been one of the most influential people in hip-hop and wider pop culture for decades now, so it hurts more that he's gone so far down the deep end.
One of these days I'll make my idea for a Kanye Broadway musical a reality. Trust me!
