It took about a year of trust building to let me pet her and now she is so snuggly and loves to sit on my lap. She still doesn’t want to come inside though maybe one day but if not that’s okay too. She has an insulated cat house that she loves. Her name is no-tail because she’s a Manx. I love her very much.

I got a new housemate recently and he brought two cats with him; they're rescues and were very briefly street cats so they're slow to trust people, they've spent a lot of their time staring at me from a safe distance and then running away if I get too close (pippa I'm sorry but if you sit at the top of the stairs while I am at the bottom of the stairs, this is going to happen eventually). It's been a month of trying to be slow/quiet around them so I don't startle them, offering them toys and treats by showing them what I have in my hand, putting them near them on the ground and then backing up. One of them has been more comfortable with me than the other, always sniffs my hand if I hold it out to her but hasn't been overly fussed About Me, if that makes sense. Well about five minutes ago she was sat meowing outside of my bedroom so I opened the door and held out my hand and she did the headbut into my hand and let me pet her 😭 it felt so nice to feel trusted by her I'm crying Pictured is the cats, the one you can actually see is Posey, she's the one who trusts me more & let me pet her. Pippa is the one hiding in the back and honestly that sums up their personalities pretty well. (their owner took this picture when they'd been here a day or so)

I found her at a family gathering about 7-8 years ago. The previous lady who was taking care of her & a colony of feral cats moved away, leaving her without a consistent food source. She hung around me the whole day, soaking up the sun from a lawn chair while occasionally stealing some of my mac & cheese. That day I ended up taking her home, now she’s my whole world. Since then, i’ve started studying all things cat (especially feline behavior), working at animal shelters, occasionally fostering, & volunteering at other animal shelters + different pet retention services. She’s taught me so much & has given me the motivation to be better everyday. I don’t know what i’d do or be without her.

After seeing that Spotify donated $150000 to the trump inauguration, pay artists nothing and replaced thousands of staff with AI I think it’s time for me to step away from the app even though it’s painfully convenient, I would rather use an mp3 player and purchase albums from artists on bandcamp (which isn’t perfect either) but at least a larger percentage of that money will go to the actual artists. I feel like 2025 is the year of choosing ethics over convenience because what is convenient for us is usually at the expense of others.

You never need a subscription service if you actually just own copies of your favourite media. I will admit moving is hard though.

I’ve recently read a book about the concept of “soundwalking” and listening to the beauty of your surroundings exploring your city and neighborhood. I used to become pretty over stimulated by the sounds of the world and would used my headphones religiously to block any sounds of the outside world from getting in. But I started to wonder if the things I use to protect myself from the outside world also isolating me from experiencing it to its fullest potential. Maybe the sounds of construction and people talking and birds and busses aren’t just “sound pollution“ but a reverberation of society and life. An organic inprov performance just for me where I am right now in the world. it made me think that anything has the potential to be a work of art depending on your perspective. I’ve started walking with a tape recorder everywhere I go and I record the sounds around me as an auditory diary of sorts. it’s fun to listen back and be reminded of the sounds of the bowling alley or the cafe or the sound check at the punk show. Since this perspective shift I’ve become allot less over stimulated by the world and become more creative with my greatest resource: the world around me.
