as a certified iPad baby, u kinda think hey 24 hours i guess we all have that no we've always had that and then u go well what were the lads doing before the scrolling consortium? i've found recently, as I live like its ten years ago (i've been free from the shackles of phone hood for a while(not without a lengthy, bloody and meaty battle!)) my time has slipped away happily. between walking around(yay), looking and observing, chatting, reading, watching movies, stretching, cooking(oh, how yum :)), journalling the internet has become my nightly treat. but not how it use to be, a dark shrouded area for under the covers and deep in despair no now it's this bountiful place of information. honestly pi.fyi has been instrumental in this, it's just so fun and old vibes(as far as a new one can ascertain). here u can get all the pros of social, curated useful information without the dangers so then u think hey twitter: u out! i now scrawl and scavenge the internet, akin to a little mouse( im a remy at heart, like many) searching for cheese in the abyss. i use youtube for fun recipes and book n so. i check out the vibes, i read and check my emails like theyre other wordly messages and importantly all my internet scrawling is a backdrop for the most bountiful of all: listening to music. anyways, i feel nourished in unfamiliar ways and perhaps claireyvoyant but thats like whatever. in more important paths, i'm connected to the long lineage of how we have always lived but now i'm seeing how the new and old tonal tunes dont contrast, they coalesce.

Just navigating for a moment my home/feed/timeline and I realized.... everything smeels like MySpace. Exciting fresh summer fruit air. Was too young to even comprehend what was going on during the beginning of early 2000s (like most of u) and the only time I felt 'k00l' enough was when a random day on 2008 I signed up for Facebook, Youtube and Twitter. None of them were interesting enough to do much, except for posting pics/videos and write nonsense status about what was up in your baby-head. At that point Myspace was long gone, buried in the silent internet black hole where you would just find all your """deleted""" embarassing moments and some uncrypted FBI cold cases files. Now, in this post- T u m b l r and edulcorated saturation of Instagram & TikTok and commersalisation of 'being visually communicative', where can we find... our tribe, our forum, our sense of community 4real 4real > > > > this seems 2 b the place, or at leat A place to start. Just reading through all the recs I can see how everything reaches like-minded art-makers and tasters, without being too 'scene-keepers'. This sounds like a homage, another type of ode, but it is coming from the depth of my heart, still seeking meaning between those digital coded lines, you know?! Hopefully I am not wrong and I can meet up with many of you somewhere - NYC, LDN, anywhere our brainy music-geeks soul will bring us <3333 Feels like this is the beginning of a new chapter of my online presence, a post-adolescence virtual rebirth.

i’m not sure what area you’re studying/working on, and which is the basis of your essay - also, as a newbie who isn’t well-versed on the culture here - i guess i’ll just say some random misc thoughts about my experience so far! there is something about this interface, i.e. the fonts, the emojis, the formatting, the colours, etc, that’s all so incredibly nostalgic of early tech. it looks like an elevated version of the bare websites they had us build with html/css in ict class. it also feels like a more text- and community-based tumblr, another platform that i found a lot of comfort and joy being on. i don’t have the introspection or technical knowledge to pinpoint what exactly it is about PI, and similar platforms (like tumblr) that makes them safe and comforting/less stressful to use compared to others, so i’d be interested in seeing whether this is something your essay will touch on, or define! maybe it’s because it’s still new and with a smaller user base than Big SMā„¢ļø sites, but the culture here doesn’t seem to care about how many followers you have, or in getting the highest amount of engagement on everything you post! itā€˜s an even playing field where everyone iā€˜ve seen is just enthusiastic, helpful and thoughtful in their recs or general comments. a small detail, but i also like that specific ā€œlikeā€œ numbers aren’t displayed - it (maybe unintentionally?) removes a lot of subliminal pressure to up that figure! PI is a happy, unencumbered space that makes you feel like a (pre-)teen exploring early tech and social platforms again, except instead of it being a collection of people u know irl, it’s basically a bunch of friends from all over. and that’s something that’s been sorely missed, or perhaps even erased, from the cultures of other social media sites. there’s so much individualism and criticism there, and when you don’t receive engagement, you’re basically talking to yourself bc the algorithm won’t pick up your posts & have them show up for other people. there’s always something so special and personal when social sites such as this are in their early days, when the people participating are still genuine in their pursuit on them. the people gravitating towards being here are probably looking for the same thing as well, so i hope for nothing more than for it to stay like this.

funny enough, my final college essay was on what going to change the hospitality landscape (im a hospitality major) in the future. this was 2010 and my answer was social media apps but esp twitter. but to be fair instagram/tiktok/spotify/fb business pages/everything really didn't exist. it was the first time businesses like restaurants and hotels had a direct and public pipeline to the customers and guests. it was just facebook and twitter as the big players (we were already basically done with myspace 🄲) and foursquare was also a thing which was randomly big for hospitality! anyways, all that said here's some of my random thoughts. this actually feels a lot like those days. this def gives into the web2/web1 nostalgia. it also reminds me a lot of people just looking to connect over random thoughts. i don't know the rules here, if there even are any, but i've noticed that no one is selling anything and i haven't seen any aff links. it's as if there's a mutual respect to not "influencerize" the place, even though this place really is all about influencing reccs if that makes sense? sure there are the personal profule promos (and i do them too!) but those are different than what you see on social media and not ads or paid content. at the end of the day, i think this brings back the connection and nostalgia of what so many of us have craved online! it's also a fun way to get to know different people and even get to know their own personal brands and follow on other platforms. another interesting aspect is that it's a raw look into what our interests are. you can tell just by following / asks who is interested in what. and all the advice here is fun, kind, and honest, which i def can't say about other corners of the internet. interested to see what others have to say too! & shoutout the founders of this app -- i truly believe y'all created something special here <3

poetry by defintion is a vibes based genre. its not about gframmar or logic but getting the vibes/emtoiom out so just read a poem and if u get something without knowing every single word or understanding all the metaphors then the vibe is there
