This books was my first read of the year and it was really interesting because it was basically a field journal of an anthropology student and their time spent in an African country of a people that many didn't really hear off. It gives a glimpse into the fieldwork of many students and the trials and tribulations but also jubilations that come with spending nearly a year away from home

Genuinely one of the best ethnographies I’ve ever read. Changing my whole life.

This book reminded me what it's like to feel so close to characters and their lives that you want to spend every single second with them, and how it feels to miss them when the book ends. If you're at all like me and you love dissecting the subtle (often mundane or unglamorous) intricacies of daily human life, this book will blow you away. Savas writes in a way that made me feel seen and alive. I've been reading her other works and she's just a star.

Anything by Camus is a banger but the stranger was the first book I read by him. Def recommend as it gives a good look into absurdism and the social contracts we play into.
