started the year off right with a three hour conversation with one of my former co-workers turned friend who is probably around my parents' age. went to a funky second wave coffee shop in my hometown and sat on some comfy chairs and caught up. then afterwards, we went to a craft store to look for frames for art she wants to hang up in her home. she encouraged and inspired me so much <3 I cherish her

this is so important! i used to unconsciously shy away from friendships with people who were older than me because i thought it'd be harder to relate to them, but it's really the essence of community, caring for others, regardless of age, and letting them nurture you as well

Older + wiser friends are the absolute best <3 I play tennis with two 50-somethings, they’re both sweet hearts and give the best life advice too. Also, they have immaculate taste in things!

i'm currently yarn buddies (literally) with a music professor, i only took one class of hers in my previous semester with zero experience, but the friendship really snowballed on from there - it can be quite nice, when there's quite a few generations separating us, like I recently learnt to say doofusheads instead of fbois hahahaha

One of my oldest friends came back to visit family after she moved to The Big City ten years ago. We spent nine whole hours talking because we only get to see each other properly once every couple of years or so. We went to all the best places to eat and talk. Had super deep and personal convos in cafes regardless of who might be listening and ate loads of good food. It was incredible and I am now charged with love until next time

My best friend is a 93 year old monk and my other best friends are an 80 year old married couple who sing folk songs in wine bars. I like the way they all view life as both a gift and method. I am proud to bring novelty to their lives and pleased that they don’t treat me as such.

being sincere is in, thinking you’re always the most interesting person in the room is OUT.
take the opportunity to learn from this random human you have crossed paths with at the function. make a big impact with a little, casual convo. what are they into? how did they get into their line of work? what did they eat that day? what is their biggest fear? (lol) small talk is only shallow if you let it be.
tell someone working in a super busy place that they’re doing great and you hope they get a breather soon. compliment an outfit you like when you see it. tell someone when you notice their beautiful smile. quick interactions =/= insignificant

very satisfying to prolong the life of things in a world where not very many things are made to last. just applied renovating cream to my blundstones. cleaning my car, sewing up holes or tears in clothing, trimming the wicks of candles, and using slip-on covers for old books fall into this category too
