first of all it’s really good for you and so important… parents are truly right that we need rest (and soup lol) when we r sick! like apparently with covid, resting for 2 weeks is like the best non-medicine thing can do to avoid heart damage or being sick longer. anyway this rec was sparked by how i was on the subway a bit today running errands and the number of people who were clearly dressed up for NYE that were coughing and sneezing a bunch was kind of sad? going out for celebrations is never more important than keeping our neighbors and loved ones safe! <3 and there’s always next year! capitalism tells us to go go go all the time, that it’s good to do everything the same/normal when we are sick, especially work, but also life in general, because usually a demand for appropriate sick leave at work is coordinated with a demand for better rights overall. (note: i am not saying that it’s bad if you can’t take off, but people who can stay home from work, plans, etc should do so). when we’re encouraged to or normalize not resting when sick, we‘re actually just being encouraged to work and spend money more, and to not care about the people we might get sick. rest isn’t always radical but sometimes it really is!

getting sick was something that was inevitable eventually, especially as i havent been sick in two and a half years. i went to sleep last night feeling a bit muddled and woke up with a sore throat and a head cold. i'm grateful that i only have a little sickness and that i have a proper excuse to lounge around (despite my to-do list). im in bed, underneath five blankets, four stuffed animals, three pillows, a scone, a book, my journal, my laptop, and my second medicine ball of the day. being a little sick is very good indeed.

I’m not good at this. Still trying to figure out how to slow down enough to not stay sick when it happens.

recently i was suddenly BEDRIDDEN for like a week. and while i thought i would die from fever i:
-drained a bottle of robotussin (you can use any cold medicine you like as long as it puts you into a painless haze and gives you strange dreams, this will make the experience a spiritual one) -take this opportunity to binge a show and let beverages and snacks pile up at your bedside. we working adults don’t often have this opportunity. for me it was twin peaks, the fever increased the already hallucinogenic experience of the show. -called friends and family -i really dont know, probably just take advantage of the time to chill and nap because it’s rare. hope you get better soon!

being traditionally cool is really quite boring and iterative, and it’s actually very cool and sexy to geek out about something you like or share bits of knowledge on a topic you’re passionate about

HAPPY INTERNATIONAL WORKER’S DAY!!!! i love having a union, i love being a union steward and getting to support my unit. when my union won its contract, i got a pay bump, better benefits, and increased protection as a worker. 🥳 unions help address racial and gender pay gaps, issues workplaces impose on families and those having kids, addressing unsafe conditions, plus things like better health insurance, wages and overtime, weingarten rights to representation, and more!!! if you don’t have a union but are thinking about forming one, check out AFL-CIO’s page (linked) or Emergency Workplace Organizing Committee. there’s always more power in a union!! ✊🥖🌹
