i have found that i much prefer the straight forward “no”, with reason, rather than dropping hints and the hot and cold game but i do understand that confrontation is scary and people dont want to burn bridges

Didn’t realize how much I appreciate honesty and lack of allusions and weird subtext in your interactions with people when it matters most until recently. Very rare but important skill. you have got to say what you mean and mean what you say

there is definitely such a thing as too much confrontation. i’ll say it i’m team no confrontation! we can just pretend like everything is okay or give very passive gentle reminders instead of every time we talk being worried i’m gonna get called out. some people are so bold with their “Can I talk to you about something?”s. I have however been a big fan of the white glove pointer finger stick tapping an out-of-place object videos (hope that reference made it home safe)

like, if you don’t know the person well? it’s kind of like ghosting, right? kind of shitty but not like… that bad? maybe if you frame it like…. “i’m not going to justify that with a response“ or “i’m really upset with you and don’t want to talk” or even “i need space for myself” imo it’s the complete lack of communication that makes the silent treatment shitty. if you’re clear with your intentions and what you want/why you’re doing it then it’s less of a punishment for the other person and more of you setting boundaries.
