What time of year do caterpillars cocoon

The girls have been seeing a lot of caterpillars lately but it seems so cold in New York for such little things to still be out there munching on leaves? I guess they can be cocooned through winter. That surprises me but it does make sense

Look at bugs

Some bugs are scary! And some bugs are fun and silly! And which bugs are which completely depends on the person. But when you see a cool fun critter, take the extra minute to look at it, maybe get a photo of it, make your friends look at it if you're with them! Sometimes you can even pick them up for a minute or two, just be careful (and gentle). Here's a caterpillar!!
