š¶A modern music folklore podcast hosted by Alaska Reid and featuring a wide range of interviewees. Iāve been with Alaska for the last 6 years, so Iāve really witnessed and learned a lot from her dedication to songwriting. Sheās also a human can-opener, extracting golden nuggets while discussing her guestsā rawest demos. Thereās a new, extremely thorough episode with Gus from Kero Kero Bonito, someone else who Iāve known for a long time, and itās special to hear such a sincere conversation in an otherwise opaque online world. Her episode with Lauren Mayberry is also particularly direct and touches on a lot of things that musicians donāt often talk about.

šDeceptively named, this is a podcast devoted to the Los Angeles food scene (āfood sceneā, good Iām already being annoying). In fact, itās been difficult for me to curate this list because all of my selections would be food and wine related if I werenāt challenging myself to appear āmulti-facetedā even though Iām simply not. I do, essentially, only want to eat and drink wine. Which is why I love this podcast! Jordan Okun and Max Shapiro, the hosts, are two very cool dudes with exceptional taste and opinions I trust. Plus every episode starts with a clip of a song Iāve never heard which I instantly add to one of my playlistsābecause I also enjoy music! Because Iām multi-faceted!

Itās black history month. Support your black friends and learn the origin of like every American popular musical genre everrr.
Once Iām done with the 40 + genres, weāre diving into the diasporaaaa.
And then at some point Iām talking cash shit about the summer of love and what was cooler than stinky trust fund kidsā¦I mean hippies in San Francisco... Iāll give you some hints, same time period but across the bridge in Oakland. Thereās also 1980s Washington DC, fuck it even 1960s Detroit. I just really fucking hate the Grateful Dead fans. Sorry. Not sorry.
Perfect listening for cleaning the house and doing art projects.

Itās a way to transcend time and to be connected to people in your family you feel you might not easily relate to because of the generational divide, especially if theyāve passed. Itās a look into their genuine interests and personality, especially if theyāve annotated in the margins. The ability to do this is valuable if you can. I think it builds or strengthens empathy, and gives you a stronger foundation for appreciating your family history. Not to mention youāll likely get an interesting reading experience out of it. The (+) is for great-grandparents and beyond.

šŗI grew up with a small TV in our kitchen and thought the added element of visual entertainment made kitchen activities better than they might have been otherwise. I use an iPad these days with a stand that I can move around as well as an adhesive wall mount. It makes dish washing and cooking a thousand times more bearable even if Iām not paying as much attention to whatās on the screen. Thereās also something really cozy about it being small.
