Whether or not a plant needs gravity for its development was investigated in April 2004 by Dutch astronaut André Kuipers during his space flight, using arugula seeds. Since the seedlings grew in all directions, it was conclusively proven that a plant indeed relies on gravity to determine its growth direction (geotropism).

i'm from australia so we call what americans call 'arugula' "rocket"
which are both fun names if you think about it... like someone looked at a veggie and named it "rocket"
