Historically I don’t bake, mostly because I lived with a friend for like 5 years and she is a baker. But now I don’t, it’s the holidays. Honestly it was so fun to dedicate a whole weekend to making cookies! I made lemon glazed sugar, chewy gingerbread and “world peace” chocolate cookies (which are the perfect treat) :)

these are two recipes that i made as i was just getting into baking a couple years ago , pretty simple to execute but very rewarding in the final product & definitely classics to me at least
the chocolate chip cookie is quite easy to put together , cutting nice bar chocolate & a little kosher salt to finish when you take them out of the oven really puts it over the top
the world peace cookie is a little different , somewhere between a chocolate cookie & a shortbread but so delicious
as a bonus there are video of doris greenspan showing the baking process of both of these & i think she’s delightful , annnnd also both of these cookies freeze really well so you can just keep some dough in the freezer and cut a couple off whenever you want just a few as a treat

I’ve been baking once a week, which allows me to have something to look forward to.
I made brown butter miso chocolate chip cookies the other day that were delicious 🙂↕️

I haven’t baked in so long, so getting back into it was much needed. It challenges me to slow down and practice a sense of mindfulness as I’m measuring the necessary ingredients, setting the oven at the exact temperature, and getting the right texture.
I also get so much joy when others enjoy my baked goods! Like it’s such an honor that this cookie made your tummy happy haha.

I threw a dinner party last night and it was so much fun! It’s winter and it’s been pretty bleak, so I thought it be nice to have friends over. This was my first time hosting something completely solo and I thought it would be very stressful but it was smooth sailing and the night was merry and cute! For me this past year has really been about platonically putting myself out there and forging local friendships and last night felt like a cumulation of that effort :-) It wasn’t a super fancy meal, but still, very nice. It’s great to be invited but its also like sometimes you gotta make the magic happen

I’m sitting outside eating a spicy falafel wrap and fries in the best city (Philadelphia), the sun is shining, ambient music is being played directly into my eardrums, I’m texting friends, a child is playing and just leapt over me. I’m wishing everyone I talk to a happy new year :)
