I think over time this album is getting more love deservedly so, and people are recognizing the gem it is, but when this came out, dare I say a lot of people were likely a little disappointed. Disappointed there was no huge single like an Electric Feel, Time To Pretend, Kids, etc. That‘s not what this is though- it’s more of a concept album, a lush, thrilling, 43 minute soundscape paying no heed to commercial sensibilities. Siberian Breaks on the second half of the album is a masterpiece, a multi act, 12 minute journey- twisting and turning to a satisfying conclusion that shimmers and fades into the next track.

After the weird ass shit that was The Idol I became rightfully scared of The Weeknd and kept my distance lmao But this album? Where do I begin?! This album right here is a MOVIE (quite literally with it's 1 hour and 30 minute runtime) There are no skips? There are no bad songs? I don't know how the hell he did it, but he's magnificiently encapsulated everything that makes his music so compelling, flitting through grappling with trauma, the darkside of fame, heartbreak and his struggles with it all. The Justice, OPN and Mike Dean production just adds to the greatness of this album. I really need to let this one marinate but notable mentions so far include Sao Paulo, Cry for me, Opening Night

by shredddflanders. really cool production - reminded me of underscores, porter robinson, and 100 gecs. insanely cool how the songs flow into one another - especially from "Gross Men" to "Jim Carrey." That was a suuuper cool transition. also "Jim Carrey" probably my fav. very fun! wish the songs were a little longer though, the ideas have lots of potential that in my opinion could have been explored much further for each song. In that sense I feel like the album had the potential to be much more immersive experience. Even though its not a genre a often come back to, it was a fun listening experience! will definitely be looking forward to more by shred.

I absolutely adore the whole album and think it’s a masteripiece, it’s just sosmething about these 3 songs in a row specifically i can’t stooop. Don’t know if it’s about the flawless transitions or the way the panned the synths here or the cohesive theme, but just aaaa :,)

I don’t believe in ranking things- restaurants, albums, books, movies, athletes anything, top x lists whatever. I think it’s a waste of time honestly. Even with a completely objective criterion what’s the point. Would rather listen to and read people just talk about their favorite things and why they are special and meaningful to them- everyone has their own, interesting reasons. And this is a great place to do that!
