when there are lulls and I find myself just kind of coasting through life and going through the motions every day, I try to step back and remember that my favorite albums of the next year have not yet come out and I get to hear all new amazing music for the first time each week, sometimes even sooner, and it gives me something to be truly excited about

I guess we’re already almost done with it, but I’ve come to enjoy the lull of new releases that happens each January. I think in the effort of keeping up with new releases, we forget that each new thing we consume comes at the cost of consuming something else. each novel thing we devote our time and attention to comes at the cost of appreciating something that we already have. not that it’s bad to experience new things, but i’ve come to appreciate the invitation that january brings to invest time and energy into fostering a new fondness and appreciation for the music collection i’ve already amassed. in this time where i’m freed from the current of new music, I can experience new things by revisiting and reconsidering old things. maybe with the passage of time they’re no longer as familiar to me as I assumed, and I can now encounter them in new ways. anyway instead of getting stressed waiting for your most anticipated album of 2025 go and listen to something you were really into back in middle school and reconnect with it. there’s a newness to experiencing old things again but from a new perspective that I think this time of year is uniquely suited for.

I always find it so gross when I look in the comment section on a musician's post, who has’t released any new music in a while, and all of the comments are filled with “new album when?”, “when is the new stuff coming out?”, “I WANT THE ALBUM NOW”. It’s just so interesting to me because it’s not like this for all fan bases. it still weirds me out so much though because what makes you feel so entitled to new music every year? I feel like music listening has become so commodified. We expect music (and even everything) to be so instantaneous. It leaves no room for exploration. I would love for my favorite artists to make new music every day, but with that, would it not become tiring and monotonous? Idk, just interesting stuff to think about ESPECIALLY now that I’ve been primarily listening to music via CD’s/LP’s. it’s crazy how much listening to the work as a whole garners such different emotions than in an algorithmically made playlist

I took it in a canon rebel g that I was lucky enough to find at an estate sale for about $20 and it’s by far my favorite pic I’ve ever taken! I think the film is like fujifilm ISO 400 or something idk but I love the colors it brings out
