FKA twigs has been on the periphery of music that I adore for many years now.. with the rollout for EUSEXUA (out January 24!) I figured itâs as good a time as any to tap in. Drums of Death has an industrial and glitchy sound to it that I canât get enough of. Coherent lyrics are few and far between, but it makes what cuts through the perilous percussion that much more meaningfu.

đOTTO - Clam Day, so damn punchy and snappy. almost mixed too present but just perfect in execution
Rustie - EVENIFYOUDONTBELIEVE, if you like drums that are distorted to the point of saturation and hit hard enough to snap your neck this is for you
Reso - Tabris, the drum programming on the tracks Tabris and Axion still blow my mind. it sounds like a drum kit thrown into a particle collider
Burial - Burial, drums so swung and off kilter they shouldnât work. Broken Home and U Hurt Me especially
Flying Lotus - Youâre Dead!, varies between maximalist freestyle jazz drumming and sleek stripped back beats

What if the entire Splice library was launched into the ether, prompting a Pokemon-esque scavenger hunt to catch âem all? This is what ear pulls off. And yet, the duoâs voices are the best instruments in the mix. Chopped notes and cheeky whispers and sharp breaths abound in their latest singles, âFetishâ and âValley Serpent.â A cut-and-sew craft project of a song, âFetishâ shows impressive restraint for as long as possible before mutating multiple times. Itâs not just a glazed ambient track, or bass-boosted electronic, or .5 speed breakcore. The disjointed lyrics are hypnotically aphasic, as if having a stroke could be a beautiful experience. âValley Serpentâ has the same structureless setup, shrouding a poignant piano ballad in blown-out artificial noise. For all they add, they know when to get minimal. The gentle recitation âfeels like a burdenâ is scripted to haunt. The most Lynchian release of the year!

đI grew up delivering newspaper with my parents to make ends meet. Thanksgiving was interesting because the paper was thick with Black Friday ads.
