Being in your 30s and 40s isn’t old as you probably picture. Now, if you have a family and a mortgage you’ll have more responsibilities. And your body might not be what it once was. But mentally, I don’t feel different. I completely forget I’m not the same age as people in their 20s when I interact with them. To answer your question, I suggest sorting the things that you only can do when you have fewer responsibilities (traveling for a long stretch, moving to a new city, quitting your job, working out and exercising). Do those things now, and remember you can do a lot in the decades to come, too (e.g., I didn’t start going to concerts until I was 40) (Also, I sincerely apologize to everyone in their 20s who is working their ass off just to get by!)

It feels like more money, more problems. Body parts hurt and don’t heal right away. Yeah you have heartburn, a handful of friends, and they all live far away. You question life choices, finally start figuring out what the hell you’re supposed to be doing. But you also find peace, get more comfortable in your own skin. You can see through the bullshit, can recognize the people who are genuine. Your 30s are like your 20s. Your brain won’t see the difference, you’ll just know when you look around and think “hey, this isn’t so bad”.

I’ve experienced 5 birthdays for ages ending in zero and none of them marked a big turning point in my life * What I’ve realized, and other people have agreed with, is that no adult age has felt like I assumed it would be when I was young. 30, 40, 50… I’m still me. Less hair and more prescriptions, but still me. Ages will mean as little or as much as you decide they do. If you want turning 30 to mark a change in your life, go for it! Want to forget about it? It’s forgotten. Life doesn’t organize itself by decades or years. Do takeadvantage of every opportunity you have, though: go places, exercise, meet people, take care of your body. Those kinds of things get more difficult with age. Also, don’t stop looking for new music. *well I bought a car when I was 30 and drove it for 20 years, but the timing was just coincidence

...read that from a friend when I turned 30, so passing on this advice, but also to think of personal wealth as life experience, like being more aware of what you like and what you don't, thus able to avoid unpleasant situations or know your worth more, as a person. Basically, you are more immune to bullshit now, welcome! And a happy happy birthday! Also - exercise kind of becomes important now, take stairs, stretch your muscles if you're on the computer for awhile. Move around more. Your later years will thank you lol

The occupation persists, the oppression persists, the torture persists. The occupiers are psychotic and their work is never finished. People who’ve paid attention won’t be surprised by this photo from Gaza.

I’m 50, I say because that makes me unusual in this context. I paid [redacted] for a ticket to the Eras Tour after listening to tswift for 3 weeks, and it was worth it. In second grade my teacher gave kids birthday spankings over her knee, and in sixth grade my teacher told my mom I hadn’t blossomed yet. I’m a good friend, mostly to people on the internet. I’m good at conversing with strangers. I’m usually the oldest person at the show but don’t feel like it. I’m good at being helpful. I’m sarcastic and funny and make myself laugh. I’m a good graphic designer and a conscientious driver. I’m a good photographer and I can successfully follow recipes. I don’t use my Peloton enough. I did a lot of caregiving for my mom for several years, and we enjoyed spending time together even if it was mostly in waiting rooms and my car. The fastest I ever ran a mile was eight minutes and six seconds. I drove the same car for 20 years and then replaced it with another one. I enjoy tipping, giving money to people on the street and Disneyland. I am a fan of baseball, Formula 1 racing and the Criterion Channel. I solve about 80% of New York Times crosswords. I take Prozac and Wellbutrin, and take Trazodone to sleep through the night. I wish I had a glassed in solarium so I could sleep in it on rainy nights. I would like to have a pet cat and a garage. I could happily live eating only cereal and fruit. I overshare on the internet and undershare elsewhere. ✌️💛
