Rec'd on 🎥 Which movies come to your mind waaaay more often than they should?

This movie is a hard watch. It’s not particularly well directed or anything, but the story is just insane. I’ve only watched it once and will probably never watch it again, but it has come to mind maybe once a week since I watched it around 3 years ago. An honorable mention would also be Donnie Darko, but I’ve watched that movie like 12 times now, so I think it makes sense. I’ll go through phases where it’s just on my mind a lot and I’ll watch it like 3 times in 24 hours lol.

Mysterious Skin (2004)

Movie by Gregg Araki. Maybe the most emotionally devastated I’ve been after a movie. Watched it alone one night and cried for an hour after. May need to look up some trigger warnings, but definitely would destroy you.

POSSESSION (1981)

I don’t know if “scary” quite describes this one, but it definitely stuck with me for days after I watched it. I still think about it to this day. “Deeply upsetting“ more fits the bill. It’s just two hours of the most destructive and toxic relationship ever portrayed on film with some horror elements for flare. Makes you want to curl up into a ball and never experience romantic feelings for another person ever again This recommendation comes with a big asterisk. This is whatever the opposite of life-affirming is, so if you like feeling like shit definitely check it out.

Requiem for a Dream (2000)

Not, this is actually a no from me. It has very interesting visuals but, ultimately, I find it in poor taste. I feel Trainspotting handles the topic of addiction and drug use better. Even more deranged is the friend who showed this to me used to chase it with Wet Hot American Summer. I did not have the courage for that double feature last night.

Watching lightning

Videos, outside of your window, whatever. Lighting is so scary but so intriguing and beautiful at the same time. Or maybe those things make it beautiful. I don’t know. All I know is that I love watching lightning strike.

Bringing a mug of tea out with me

It’s a wet and gloomy day. My hair is frizzy, my tea is ginger and peach flavored. I used lipstick on my lips and cheeks today and nothing else. The shoes I’m wearing are not made for the rain. This morning I was reading East of Eden. Frazzled is how I would describe myself right now. I feel like your favorite English professor who’s always running late. Highly recommend.
