Heavy thoughts and emotions have the habit of coming up whenever I am getting ready to sleep. I find that writing them down in my diary helps clearing up my mental space and I usually feel relieved afterwards. I try to keep my diary or any journal by my bed at all times, but whenever I don‘t have anything to physically write down my thoughts I just use my notes app. Writing obviously isn‘t the same as talking to someone, but sometimes it feels like confiding in a friend.

when people used to say “you should journal!” i would be like yeah, yeah whatever. it’s funny looking back on it, because now whenever i get a single thought in my head, i have to write it down. it can be difficult for me to identify my emotions, but seeing bits of my thoughts, written and scattered about, allows me to solve the puzzle piece that is my complex (& crazy) mind. 🪐

can be old fashioned written thoughts, audio, visual, or just free loose ideas. Everybody needs a diary that’s not the internet. Good to bounce yourself off of yourself when u feel lost. Sometimes the best way to find the solution is to talk with yourself at any moment. Past and Present. A diary connects it all.

I make photo albums of the polaroids I take of my friends, work, and travels. I love having a physical object that can bring back so many memories. Like many, reading the book The Artist's Way helped me find ways to connect to myself and my art. I adopted the practice of "Morning Pages" which is writing three pages in a journal stream of consciousness style to empty your mind of cluttered thoughts before you get into your day. This has helped my anxiety levels and enhanced my focus so much. I love reading them back after enough time has passed to reflect on what has worried me and remind myself that all things must pass.
