idk if anyone else has this experience but been journaling all my life. Could write a book fr But sometimes I get caught up in more of what I think about feels like ~productive journaling~. Journaling about values, goals, stuff that’s happened and my feelings about situations and experiences I have had This all feels …. Good, but too productive I’ve been taking moments to write about what’s directly in front of me And instead painting a picture of whatever immediate scene im in. ā€œI’m on a train , it’s dark, the only way I know there’s houses on the hills in the distance is by their glowing light through the windowsā€ It’s helped me tap into a different part of my brain & feels really good. There have been periods where I don’t focus on this type of stuff while writing. Just a reminder to pause ā¤ļø

The other day I went to a coffee shop with the intention of reading my book but instead spent about two hours writing in my journal. I’m not a great journaler. It’s the kind of relationship where I’ll pick it up when I’m going through something, be really consistent for a couple days, and then once I’m feeling lighter I won’t touch it for months. I’m definitely not in the easiest season of life right now, but im not actively shittingscreamingcryingthrowingup about anything at the moment. For some reason though, despite my mentally ā€œupā€ state of being, I was desperate to write down everything I’ve been thinking and feeling in the past couple weeks. I honestly think it’s why the past couple days I haven’t posted anything on this app is because anything I would’ve mused about I already wrote in my journal lol. I even considered just taking a picture of the journal pages and posting them here but that felt too intimate? Maybe?

this is only a habit i have picked up in the last year, but it has made a world of difference. i will write about things that i am thinking about or stuff i need to do or just chronicle my day. i just find it very grounding or like a reset to my thought processes.

My journal is very chaotic and has a lot of collages, sticker dumps, poems and quotes I like, along with more structured diary entries, but one of my favourite things to do in it is what I call free journaling. I’m sure this is not a new concept, I just haven’t looked into it at all. All you do is write anything and everything that comes to your mind even if that is ā€œI don’t know what to write right now. I’m really bored.ā€ It’ll start with that but as you write you start to tune in more to the things around you and how your body feels, and you might start describing what the room looks like, or what you did that day to lead you to this point, or some strange idea for a project, or how the pen feels in your hand. I had a professor once say to start writing by just starting and making a word vomit page, then open a new document and completely rewrite it. I have taken that advice into my journaling and just done this word-vomit free journaling, then taken some keys ideas/ phrases and used them elsewhere, but also, you don’t have to ever look at it ever again. It gives you the chance to really let go, and let your brain warm up.

As an Only child that’s struggled with social anxiety since forever, i have always enjoyed going to shows & functions & restaurants & doing whatever by myself. Im used to it & it’s natural & comfortable. I’m consistently reminded how ironically this behavior has both filled my life with such amazing people & has helped practice how I show up in social settings & lessen anxiety. feeling grateful this sunday

Jesus fuck. growing up a neurodivergent kid w wavering mental health, a wavering home life, in and out of therapy, etc, you always hear ā€œhave you tried meditatingā€ No Susan I never fucking thought of that thank you for the recommendation Well finally at my big age, I took the leap to start practicing and Jesus fuck. Why was I avoiding this my whole life. I have been so resistant to it because it’s intimidating, it’s not instant gratification every time, and it’s … well scary! What if I mess up. What you mean sitting still for ten or so mins and not thinking. I have always been big into dreams. I’ve wrote down my dreams for as long as I can remember, have books upon books filled, and practice lucid dreaming. It’s kind of like that but without being asleep and without any anxiety inducing scenarios It’s improved a lot of areas in my life in the two short months I have been practicing I’m having fun
