this was so funny and silly and heartwarming with a thoughtful and loving portrayal of the gay experience. basically: gender is a construct, binaries are a prison, julie andrews is so hot, and i love how this said so much while saying so little. gay rights!

β€œPre-AIDS gay media always makes me emotional. Unabashedly living as queer in the face of everything makes me emotional. I love the intimacy of this documentary so much. It's so casual and the camera revels in the queens' presence it feels like I could reach through the screen and touch them and then I get emotional again that I cannot. Crystal LaBeija, one of the most influential queens in history, you will always be loved and your legacy is your true win. I love queer flaboyancy and homosexual sensability. Not only have we always been here, but some of us have even always dared to live as we naturally are.” Read the rest of my review on Letterboxd

yeah okay it's not exactly cheerful, either. but it's a damn fun time and it's pretty gay, too re-animator (1985). it's not explicitly gay. sorry. but it practically is, and it's hilarious and stupid and terrible and wonderful
