the best, most cohesive studio album that paul weller ever made. side A is classical-influenced piano ballads (concluding with a 10 minute suite), side B is groovy synth-funk angry at margaret thatcher. no one ever seems to talk about this album. sure, it doesn't *quite* nail its ambition, but it gets incredibly close, especially for how ambitious it is.

One of the first records I can remember owning where there were no breaks between songs because Who brainiac Pete Townshend conceived of it as a concept record -- his unrelated songs were all connected by fake commercials and public service announcements (one track is even called "Heinz Baked Beans"), it's supposed to be a pirate radio broadcast from Radio London.

house, 60s soul and clips from post war british films blended together to make this album stand out to me considering how dominant britpop/rock was in the 90s

The Stones go psychadelic, had never really explored this one before recently. They didn’t really explore this stuff further after this album and the album was the panned as a rip off of those trends of the time and the what the Beatles had done, but still give this a listen, cool stuff. This is what digging into discographies and less popular stuff is all about, finding these fun one offs.

i know that most people cool enough to post here probably know this by now, but wired headphones are the best. for audio quality, yes, but also cos i’m wearing jeans with rly small front pockets, so my phone is in my back pocket and my wired headphones tell me that my phone hasn’t been stolen again

substacks are the modern blogs now, right? i've got my own substack linked in my profile under 'website' (i need to post more often, working on that). and of course, rayne-fisher-quann's substack is top tier. i read her stuff and i wish i could write nearly that well. as far as traditional blogs (ie, dedicated websites), dangerous minds is a cool music blog that posts (or at least used to post) about random things in the world of 70s and 80s art rock and post-punk. again, not sure how active they still are but it's got that loose writing style and primitive design of the late 00s/early 10s blog era that i wasn't really around for but get nostalgic over nonetheles.
