I go to the Peet’s… “One ch-k-chi cookie (inside joke) heated up and a latte with a pump of maple syrup pleaseeeee” and they don’t charge me a penny. (three of my friends work there)

i open at work a lot, i’m a barista at a coffee shop inside a fancy ish food market which is basically just an upscale cafeteria for business people who are too hip for sweetgreen. we’re the only booth that opens before 11 am here! and there are only 4 of us baristas now, there used to be more but recent drama has resulted in some serious jumping ship. it really just means our opener options went from 4 to 2, so i come in at 6:50 am a lot more. i’ve been getting to know the morning crowd better and better, i feel quite close to 8 oz americano, he always wishes me a good day, 12 oz iced chai with whole milk and a blueberry muffin is always kind as well, and oat milk flat white (except for one time he was 16 oz cold brew, we both laughed at that) smiles when he sees me.  i like to be the smiley barista they get to have a minimal morning chat with, and plus i feel cool saying “just the usual?”

I just got hired at the coffee shop I go to everyday. I’m not very good at it so they only have me scheduled once a week, but they give me a 50% off discount now whenever I come in which saves me more money on my daily coffee than I make in wages. Shout out Pando’s in Crown Heights, I work Tuesday afternoons - come by and I’ll make you a coquito latte with no latte art.
Truly some of the most fun acquaintanceships on the face of the earth!! discounted Coffee and a little fun social moment!!!

This is a rose soy candle that I bought in France. It’s pink and it’s small. Every time I burn it, I use those moments to mourn something until the wax has melted evenly. When my cat died, I lit it for about seven minutes and used that moment to let him pass. But even on New Years Eve a few years back, it felt right to let go of the year that way. While the flame and the melting wax helps me let go, using the candle’s pretty metal and ceramic cup will help me keep everything I’ve mourned alive. Because the candle is so small, each time I burn it it‘s very special.
