i chose this edition specifically because it has some gorgeous illustrations and is edited by a well-revered queer author... what more could one ask for in a vampire novel!?
tender is the flesh is next on my October list after seeing a good review from gothbubbe (the ebook is on a very long hold at my library but itās just $3 on apple books!) & i might try do an annihilation re-read after i finish that! the fourth in the series comes out this monthā¦!

My favourite short stories tend to be creepy or magical. I think due to the necessary open-endedness of short stories, it lends itself most to mystery and magic.
Angela Carterās Bloody Chamber is a great classic creepy feminist story to start with.
Carmen Maria Machadoās The Husband Stitch continued Carterās legacy
Iām a HUGE Kelly Link fan, but her stuff is very strange so might not be for everyone, but my favourite of hers is probably The Specialistās hat or Skinderās Veil
Shirley Jacksonās The Lottery is also a classic, and if you like creepy stories and want a good overview of writers in that genre, I recommend the collection āWhen Things Get Darkā, a collection inspired by the tone of Jacksonās work; it features Kelly link, Carmen Maria Machado, Joyce Carol Oates, and loads of contemporary short story writers. I discovered the story Tiptoe by Laird Barron through this and its possibly my favourite creepy short story, it sent full shivers down my spine in a way no other story had.

thereās so many classics I couldāve chosen as my favorite since I enjoyed reading them since I was a kid. The Penguin Classics were great and usually free on Kindle. this one is special to me because itās what got me into gothic literature and the goth subculture in general (romantic goth being my favorite). it was interesting to see just how different the book is to the modern interpretation of it. most of them arenāt accurate (surprise, surprise). I canāt wait for Guillermo Del Toroās Frankenstein movie coming out this year in November on Netflix. I hope it doesnāt disappoint. some other classics Iāve read includes Dracula, Carmilla, Interview With The Vampire, and The Invisible Man. Iāve also really gotten into the Universal Monsters franchise. Iām glad I get to share all of this at least somewhat with my roommates, but more in depth with my cousin whoās fascinated by all of it as well.

As y'all might know, I'm a climber. Which is fun, cute, sexy and I recommend everyone to become one. Only downside is that it's def a male dominated sport. There's plenty of girls who climb, but a large majority (in our gym) is male. Meaning that the likelihood of going on an outdoor climbing trip without men.. is small. Unless, of course, you organise a girls-only climbing trip. I would highly recommend doing so. Men r great but it's also nice to only be surrounded by girls who know what's it like to climb when you have a menstrual cycle and don't have a natural knack for dynamic power. Made me feel supported, seen and connected.

Feels like the adult alternative to sleepovers as a kid. Telling eachother your deepest secrets and scariest truths while laying in the dark. Seeing the hours on your clock pass steadily, knowing it'll be a bitch to wake up in the morning but thinking that it's worth it.
