this man is absolutely legendary. if you enjoy japanese jazz/funk fusion, surfboards, star wars, or just straight swagger, Takanakaâs your guy. the 70s musician has that of a cult followingâ for reference, last week he announced a single show at the Wiltern in Los Angeles with presale tickets going on sale for this Friday October 4th... but tell me why my friend went through LENGTHS to somehow snag tickets on October 1st, which ended up selling out nearly the entire venue, with the $300 pit tickets being the only ones left.
even if you donât like the music, his signature surfboard guitar should get you fucking itching to see him live. i would highly recommend his 1977 album âBRASILIAN SKIESâ, which includes STAR WARS SAMBA. itâs exactly what it sounds like: a samba rendition of the Star Wars Theme! the man has entire instagram fan-pages dedicated to that of a single album cover in which heâs skydiving over the vast blue sea. jubilantly, at that. i canât wait to see him in March 2025, long live Takanaka!

Masayoshi Takanaka is a legendary artist. Most people know him from âBeleza Pulaâ (and the video where he plays a giant surfboard guitar), but this song â and so many others from his album âSeychellesâ â is just a joy to listen to.

really incredible japanese guitarist - his stuff ranges from new age jazz to more traditional songs too. both of his last two records are killer "best no jikan" & "morning sun"

some time last year on a road trip, i came across Fievel Is Glauque. âwhat the fuck is a Fievel?â i asked hnyre, to which he responded âyâknow, that one cartoon mouseâ(iâd never seen it). after listening to their song Hit Me Now, i fell in love with their rough production style combined with the wacky rhythmic and harmonic jazz bullshit youâd hear music nerds audibly orgasm over. though, sometimes with that irregular music riff-raff, you ought to pair it with sounding like you recorded your album inside a comical rusty garbage can with a single mic(iâm overcompensating), which Fievel Is Glauque does amazingly with their record âGodâs Trashmen Sent to Right the Messâ. listened to the entire thing right after i found the first song. had 0 skips from me!
their new single thatâs preceding the next album drop is also pretty incredible, in which it seems like the trash men have righted the mess with a much âcleanerâ sound this time around.
gotta say, i also just love french singing. no wonder why Pomplamoose has a new viral video every other moon

iâve seen this movie twice now, and although some scenes are awfully hard to watch, the camerawork and symbolism is amazing. itâs masterfully written with both high intensity and comedic moments. if you can handle blood and guts and body horror vfx, you need to watch this film. i would say that the first watch felt very long, but watching it again definitely gave me another perspective.
