I take naps, usually for 23 minutes exactly also external stimulation (sunlight is easiest for a quick boost; blue light is not great)

You want to shoot for 20 minutes or 90 minutes, nothing in between! 20 minute naps (set a timer between 15 or 30 minutes) are short enough that sleep inertia doesn't affect you much. Sleep inertia is what makes you feel like shit after a long nap. You will not feel like your are sleeping in that 20 minutes. It has big "resting my eyes energy." But just 20 minutes has huge benefits and will allow you to feel alert the next few hours. No grogginess. 90 minute naps are the longest naps you want to take. A full sleep cycle (going from light to deep sleep and back) takes about an hour and a half. 90 minutes guarantees you wake at a light stage and you'll be able to shake off that sleep inertia quick. Both of these options are not likely to spoil your normal night's sleep either. Source for this info at the link. Bonus nap: The Caffeine Nap 😈 Drink a stimulant (coffee, red bull) and immediately go down for a 20 minute nap. By the time you wake up, refreshed, the caffeine will have metabolized and gives you an additional boost of alertness. This is how I survived my last few semesters of college.

somewhere along the line past being a toddler, it was decided for us that we no longer needed a nap to get through the day. I’m not sure who is responsible for this injustice, but i have even reclaiming this stolen time for years. some people like power naps. this could be 30 minutes of no screens, just chilling with your eyes closed. falling asleep is not necessary. napping is a state of mind. I am a fan of the 2-3 hour range, where I start off with an ASMR video and drift off. I then wake up feeling solidly refreshed, but not disoriented. Bonus points for having a big swig of cold water when I wake up. when I go past 3 hours, I risk waking up sweaty and wondering what decade I’m in. but you do you. I’m also a big fan of the couch nap, because I am lucky to have an old and well-cared for couch that has just enough softness while also supporting my back. I also enjoy sleeping on top of my covers on my bed with my favorite blanket. naps! long may they rule!

at least casually. don’t delete the accounts but don’t have the apps on your phone either. rediscover your love of reading thru the magic of recognizing titles strangers are holding on the subway. become a subway reader. don’t use sound as an escape from your thoughts/feelings/surroundings. grocery shopping without headphones is actually kind of beautiful! pick up a new hobby or two or three. one of them should be something you’re not good at, and at least one should be no- or low-cost. never. stop. learning. the library, the parks and rec department, and nearby museums offer great materials already but also usually have free lectures or courses. go outside more. like, a lot more. (took this much less literally, so apologies if it’s not what you’re looking for lol — as a narcoleptic I have no tips on how to Not Sleep since Sleep is basically my job)
