Living in New York means spending a pretty penny on rent, but that also means hopefully living in a neighborhood you enjoy or a home/room you can really make your own. I think it can be hard to feel like you’re not missing out on all of the goings on in your city, but really enjoying your home and just relaxing, watching some tv, reading, or going for a walk around your neighborhood (basically backyard) are all free and let you take advantage of the money you have to spend every month.

shit, man, rent is expensive. grad student housing will be fun, you'll be there with your fellow grad students and you'll have a local dive bar that you all go to and you'll make friends and it'll be good. most parts of the city are cool to live in. your grad school is not on Staten Island. I guess super deep brooklyn/queens are not that cool, but really, keep an open mind, you'll have more fun than if you spend $5k a month to live in the east village.

I am not rich! I have a landlord who isn't greedy and likes me being around so keeps the rent reasonable. They could get $500 more per month easily. That said, I do like my neighborhood! My complaint is that I moved here long ago because it was the nicest part of the city one could afford to live. Now it's still nice, but it's unaffordable. 25-year-old me never would be able to afford these rents.

If you live in an expensive, desirable place like New York City or Key Largo, try swapping apartments with a young freelancer in a Tier 4 city who probably lives in a massive loft. For free. Put your performative Airbnb guilt to good use—take a midcation!

I took it in a canon rebel g that I was lucky enough to find at an estate sale for about $20 and it’s by far my favorite pic I’ve ever taken! I think the film is like fujifilm ISO 400 or something idk but I love the colors it brings out
