or flea markets/consignment shops/ antique stores/ESTATE SALES/thrift shops. Soooo many unique gorgeous pieces out there. Don’t feel rushed to fill your house up; let things find you over time! Think about the textures, fabrics, materials, and colors you enjoy.
Whatever you do, do not and I repeat do not buy idiot reproduction mid-century modern furniture targeted towards millennial yuppies and end up looking like you live in a catalogue it is the most swagless thing you could do…

Trawl through Facebook Marketplace, Craigslist, Nextdoor, OfferUp, Buy Nothing, eBay, etc; go to thrift and antique stores, estate sales (look for online estate auctions that are local to you too), flea markets; buy prints from local galleries; pick up random junk that catches your eye from off of the street but be wary of bugs. If you want something distinctive, unique, and well-made for a more affordable price that’s the way to go. (If you wanted to get spendy I would say 1stDibs but I don’t even shop on there because who am I, Norman Rockefeller)

I know you've probably heard this a hundred times, but you really can find the coolest stuff at antique malls, thrift stores, flea markets, and garage sales. They're ESPECIALLY a goldmine for trinkets and signage, in my experience. Mercari and Depop are also fun secondhand marketplaces, you just have to know what you're looking for.
Also consider local listings on Facebook marketplace or Craigslist.
Outside of secondhand, you might look into Etsy, Spencer's Gifts, Target's dollar spot/seasonal stock, or your local dollar stores.
It helps me to use the keywords "kitschy," "fun," "funny," or "funky" when searching for inspiration.
Some of my favorite finds lately:
•Russian nesting doll measuring cups •Dancing Frankenstein doll •1970s childrens bookbag made to look like the Barnum's animal cracker box (I use it as a laptop case) •Pillow with Andrew Garfield's face printed all over it •Floormats deisgned to look like your favorite DVD/CD/game disc
(As a disclaimer, I admittedly don't know much about the ethics or international shipping policies of any of the aforementioned companies.)

My dad teases me about how when I was a little kid, my favorite thing to do when I was on the landline phone with somebody—be it a relative or one of my best friends—was to breathlessly describe the things that were in my bedroom so that they could have a mental picture of everything I loved and chose to surround myself with, and where I sat at that moment in time. Perfectly Imperfect reminds me of that so thanks for always listening and for sharing with me too 💌
