Not sure if this is what you’re asking for, but there are a few collections of literature lectures that Nabovok gave while teaching (because his wife typed up all of his lectures for him!) and you can read the books and then read his lectures and it’s like taking a fun little lit class if you’re missing college. You could even assign yourself a paper and ask Chat GPT to grade it in the style of Nabokov if you want to go all in.

- metafiction with a twist: the book presents as if it was a serious literary commentary (with footnotes and everything) of the last poem of a recently-murdered poet. but oh... never trust a nabokov narrator... - perfect for internet sleuths, gossips, and folks who always think their partner is cheating on them and need another outlet for that energy: overthink this. it's how it's meant to be read. decode the footnotes, the glossary, the index, as well as the main text. really take your time with it. go on. you got the time clearly... - raise eyebrows at the bus but only for good reasons: you can bring this baby outside no problem. get the sophistication of Nabokov without the "hmm reader with critical thinking skills or pedophile with no reading comprehension?" of Lolita.

the man had style, loved his wife and butterflies, and is one of the greatest writers ever. we could all learn a thing or two from him…

But I read Lolita multiple times as a teen—the first time being in middle school—so that I could know the sexual predator (the natural enemy of the teenage girl) and see into their twisted delusions and justifications/learn to recognize their manipulation tactics. I truly think this paid off. But it was also my first Nabokov read and I fell in love with his beautiful prose—nobody does it like him! 🥲

Upper East Side. He shouted “I thought it was a Tuesday” on a Wednesday into a flip phone in the early 2000s. He sounded just like he does in the movies 💕

This is annoying advice but love has always come to me when I’m not looking for it. When I get very active in things I’m passionate about (usually leftie organizing but also art and history stuff and also just spending time with friends a la the friends of friends rec) I meet new people and find interesting, aligned folks.

I got my current role by rage applying and it’s weirdly great but still whenever I get mad at it, I either update my resume (I’m only able to boast about my work when I’m mad at my job!) or randomly apply to roles - it gives you a task to focus on and it could end up changing your life for the better.
