While the style is partially “Eastern”, Szabó emigrated to the US when he was 20 and played with Chico Hamilton in NYC for several years; an important context for the late 60s Szabó records was that he was spending a lot of time in California and basically inventing psychedelic Latin/Indian/Eastern-European jazz for the LSD generation
