i haven’t had the biggest attention span lately, but this album commanded my attention for the entirety of its 54 minute run time. i’d listened to this album before the deluxe edition came out, and i only found out there was a deluxe edition when i saw runo plum (an artist i like whose spotify i follow) listening to it earlier today. and because i’m such a huge runo fan and a big fan of hovvdy (charlie martin’s other project), i gave this deluxe edition a go and i’m sooooooo glad i did cuz wow… charlie martin knows how to write, and he knows how to write about people and all their multitudes, memories, and mistakes, even imaginary people. and even though the bonus tracks are just piano versions of existing tracks, they are so stunning and just the perfect addition to the tail end of the album. with every second, every chord, every guitar strum, i felt each person on this album hug me warmly and tightly <3
so if you need a good hug and there’s no one around to give you one, i recommend listening to this masterpiece 🫂

thank you yazz for reminding of this album… i’ve been meaning to listen to it ever since i heard “IWR” on the very last episode of my friend’s college radio show, more than two years ago. now, i am laying on my floor, blissfully stoned, mouth agape in candle-lit darkness absolutely in awe of this masterpiece of music.
every single song feels so intimate, each sound, each word amplified and layered on top of the other, like cake, a sonic confection that makes your heart smile a lot (and your teeth hurt a little) with every bite you take. this album tries to do a lot, and in doing so, becomes irreplaceable. i can’t wait to see what they do next.
(also “IWR” is still one of the best songs literally ever!!!! yup)
