omg get this: The breakthrough study was in 2010, where dogs were fMRI-scanned while looking at an image of a person they “loved”. In humans, a similar image would light up our caudate nucleus; the same was true in dogs. In 2020, a study combined fMRI with eye-tracking and behavioural preference, and discovered that the bond between a dog and its human caregiver was remarkably like the attachment bond between human infants and their mothers. They don’t just love you, in other words; they really, really love you.
