I'm a simple woman, I deeply enjoy the way that Eric Rohmer captures the summer season, and my favorite one of his many summer movies is The Green Ray.
Is protrays a very distinct summer from my tropical experience, but shares that hazy feeling of people melting in the sun, completed by the selection of truly gorgeous French landscapes. However, where it truly shines is the ability to capture the duality of summer, along the hot weather and beaches, there is that little melancholy nurtured by the expectation that you need to enjoy things the most and have the best time.
The director treats the protagonist very kidly and respects that melancholy, but suggests a quite sweet and optimistic ending.
