i never shut up about this book lol but it’s an amazing thriller (bordering on both sci-fi and horror) about this researcher entering this place called ā€œarea xā€, where all previous research teams have died under mysterious circumstances. there’s all kinds of weird and creepy stuff happening throughout, and i won’t give spoilers but this would totally fit into your request for books about ā€œsomething luring you inā€. it’s ~200 pages and there’s additional books but it also is great on its own. it was relatively popular so i also assume there may be translated versions!

annihilation by jeff vandermeer - this one is female-led (first person!) and sooooo good. the book made me feel like i was going on the deranged journey alongside the main character. plenty of weird things in the plot. one of my favorite books of all time (sadly the movie is terrible and deviates so much from the book) jonathan livingston seagull by richard bach - not ebook/audiobook compatible, kinda quick slightly philosophical read with lots of seagull photos this is how you lose the time war by amar el-mohtar & max gladstone - a book about two people on opposite sides of a time war, the chapters go back and forth between their perspectives. kinda prose-y, & women-led. don’t look anything else up about the book, just read it!

You know, the kind of books you stare at a wall after finishing, like, ā€œwhat did I just read?ā€ Books that are trippy or odd or dark or just weird. Books that you don’t totally know how to explain, but stick in your head for a long time afterwards. If you have any recommendations like that, let me know please!!
