and while i’m there, find my great grandparents’ names on the wall! :) i’ve seen the statue of liberty a million times and visited it up close once, but idk why i still haven’t been to ellis island! even in the fourth grade we had ā€œimmigrant dayā€ where we all dressed up and learned about ellis island and the immigration process back then but for some reason they didn’t take us on a field trip there…

Oh man I think about this all the time. I think I’m older than you but my ā€œsome reasonā€ in 4th grade was 9/11. They canceled all of our field trips that year and then in 5th grade did weird replacements like the NJ zinc mine where they filmed Zoolander and some nature trail where they only talked about scatology. So yeah I missed my chance to do any of the New York things you should do before the age of 12.

I’m obsessed with this thing, it unlocked the five year old battleship fascination that I skipped because pokemon got to me first. I used to date this guy that lived on 59th and like tenth ave and every time I’d drive past that ship I’d think ā€œwow. Can’t believe this thing is headed for Ukraine. we really are a nation at war..ā€ still have never been inside but its size and grandeur impresses me

i worked here for a few years and often got emotional just entering it (dramatic i know!!), it is just such a marvel, truly emblematic of the city/iconic, visiting the top was always such an adventure, also my fav part was that there are these murals throughout the lobby (mainly the ceiling but also the reception desk wall and in the elevators) that feature gears in celestial formations it is extremely steampunk!!!!

being traditionally cool is really quite boring and iterative, and it’s actually very cool and sexy to geek out about something you like or share bits of knowledge on a topic you’re passionate about

HAPPY INTERNATIONAL WORKER’S DAY!!!! i love having a union, i love being a union steward and getting to support my unit. when my union won its contract, i got a pay bump, better benefits, and increased protection as a worker. 🄳 unions help address racial and gender pay gaps, issues workplaces impose on families and those having kids, addressing unsafe conditions, plus things like better health insurance, wages and overtime, weingarten rights to representation, and more!!! if you don’t have a union but are thinking about forming one, check out AFL-CIO’s page (linked) or Emergency Workplace Organizing Committee. there’s always more power in a union!! āœŠšŸ„–šŸŒ¹
