Ari Aster is like a friend you seldom see, but when he shows up, he reminds you why you chose him as your person.
Beau Is Afraid is a collection of postcards you never wanted to receiveโ€”yet you did. Each one is from a journey thatโ€™s good, bad, and, honestly, indifferent.
This movie is a cathartic release, a relapse, and a nervous laugh. Unapologetic, satirical, and truly toxiqueโ€”practically useless!
Though Beau Is Afraid is drenched in chaos, it remains committed to its purpose: to make you see and say the things you've always wanted to express.
Ari Aster had no filtersโ€”and then decided to consume the last bit of poise you as an audience had left. This movie is a dump of weirdly familiar scenarios.
With Ari Aster, itโ€™s always a dream, a coma, and a selective amnesia.
Well played, AA.

brilliant. beautiful and funny and heartwrenching and silly and all around fantastic. the more i think about this movie the more i love it. tells an unconventional tale of self-confidence, self-sabotage, regret and jealousy, etc etc the ending was a bit silly but i can look past it lol. what a fantastic cast and fantastic production. they frame things throughout as if it were to look like a stage production only for that to be the eventual main plot point. one of my favorite scenes (if not films) of the year

I knew I was going to love this movie just because of the concept and the fact that itโ€™s Kieran culkin and Jesse eisenberg but right now itโ€™s the morning after I saw it and Iโ€™m sitting in bed crying thinking about certain things different characters but especially David, Jesse eisenbergs character said
Iโ€™ll tear up at a movie every once in a while but this movie really hit me because it is so relevant to how im feeling recently like literally every element of David and Benjis (Kieran culkin) emotional characteristics and their relationship with each other is relevant
My aunt passed away in September and I have been weirdly impacted by it since then and I have been working on controlling anxiety and depression for four years now with minimal progress and those two things, (Davidโ€™s OCD and anxiety/Benjiโ€™s grief) are essentially what lead David and Benji to take this trip together so as we learn more and more about their relationship with each other and their personalities themselves it kept getting more and more personal to an almost unbelievable degree
Theres a point where something happens and David sort of opens up and what he says about not actually being okay but just presenting that heโ€™s okay because he takes his medication and runs and meditates and goes to work then comes home then does it all again that really really hit me
It is such a perfect blend of funny but also deeply serious and emotional so even if itโ€™s not as relevant to you right now I think everyone should see this movie

Rated - โญ๏ธโญ๏ธโญ๏ธโญ๏ธ "an entire movie built on that awful feeling you get when you're iron-deficient and stand up too fast" - clementine on Letterboxd
great movie on the ridiculousness of american suburban culture - may cause a headache. i have yet to watch another movie that comes close to creating a vibe as rancid as this one. great movie to show friends that you secretly don't like too much. reminds me of what it felt like to move to massachusetts for undergrad.

When Marianne rubbed a cloth to destroy the first portrait of Hรฉloรฏse, I knew this film was going to be a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
I loved how expressive both actors wereโ€”their gazes, their nuances, and the way they delivered each line... If I may borrow Jane Austenโ€™s words, this film has truly pierced my soul. All the eroticism is steeped in consent.
I also loved the setting: the eerie mansion by the beach, perched on a cliff, was the perfect backdrop for a passionate story I could only imagine and dream of. I felt everything through this movie and adored how both actors flirted and argued until they could no longer speak or touch each other.
Sighhhh... I could talk about this film all day. Another sighhhh... Iโ€™m truly moved and have recommended it to my closest friends as a must-watch.
After my first viewing, I can say this movie has left a lasting mark on me and has taken a significant part of my heart. ARGHโ€”I'm in love with this movie!

Probably the best episode of PBB-PH to date.
Politics at its finest.
When you're an open book, a smiler, a conversation starter โ€” totoo ka.
But when you're quiet, guarded, and shy โ€” fake ka.
Well, it is what it is. Just captured on camera.

There were three layers of the storyline that unfolded in this movie: 1. When the incel revealed to the audience how he got himself a companion robot 2. When the companion robot revealed to the audience that she had to kill the incelย  3. A frame-up subplot that the incel organized with his friends to cover up a heist and put the blame on the robot.ย  None of these moved me really. But there's one particular scene in the movie that, for me, is thought-provoking: It's when "spoiler alert" Jack (the incel male lead) forced Iris (the companion robot) to shoot herself in the head with a gun. There was a split second of resistance when she shouted NO before pulling the trigger. It was a nice touch. And necessary. Thanks. Kinda made me think about how women are treated in our societyโ€”people always say women have better options to save themselves in risky situations, but in truth the perpetrator (not all men but often men) manipulates women to choose the worse option. Basically, this movie, if not political, is sort of a nod to those who haven't felt seen in a long while. And I, myself, nod back.
