Bluetooth keyboards for writing on mobile devices
I write less than I would like because I avoid my laptop like the plague due to its associations with my freelance work… my 9:00 to 5:00 company laptop is my friend but my personal laptop is my sworn enemy.
I was talking about this with a friend who had a similar issue because she was using her personal laptop for her high stress job, and at one point she was looking into getting some kind of low-tech e-ink writing device. I was considering it too until I realized I could just buy a Bluetooth keyboard for my phone (I’m a simple woman and I don’t need an iPad; this little screen is good enough for me)!
Instant lightweight portable writing setup! The one I bought was on sale for like $10 and has a rechargeable lithium ion battery… I put it on the nonslip side of a mouse pad to keep it from sliding around when I type and it’s working great. I’m kind of obsessed… expect me to be even less capable of shutting up than I was before.

i love little personal experiments like this, especially with tech. i tried writing on my phone with a bluetooth keyboard for a bit. while doable, it wasn't for me. so i bought a $35 laptop on ebay and slapped debian 12 minimal (no desktop environment), and i'm writing via a terminal now. so far so good!

lucius actually what does not slap is the fact that i keep accidentally prematurely hitting enter on it because of the key layout but anyway i feel like you can’t even find anything for 10 dollars anymore in this economy

Seperate keyboards make a whole new computer using experience
I only say this because I have recently been gifted a blue-tooth keyboard from a friend. It has an orange escape key and clicks as if you are using a public computer in the early 2000's. There is juice among these keys. It makes being on my computer fun sometimes! As someone who types for most of the day for work, I probably never would have been willing to type even more on pi.fyi.com. Highly recommend.

Mid membrane keyboards
My friend gave this keyboard to me in 2018 or so because it came free with her custom built gamer computer (lol) and she bought a mechanical keyboard. I type a LOT in my line of work. I used this for years but was led astray to many others, mechanical and otherwise, and ever since I started at my job I’ve been just psychotically using the built-in one on my work laptop?
I pulled this baby out of my old electronics trunk, dusted her off, and plugged her in (currently using a vintage suitcase as a laptop riser…) and I’m in love again. The keys are audible but not clicky, tactile but not overly so, bouncy and almost fluid-like in a way I can’t explain. I love you generic CyberPowerPC keyboard ❤️

My dad teases me about how when I was a little kid, my favorite thing to do when I was on the landline phone with somebody—be it a relative or one of my best friends—was to breathlessly describe the things that were in my bedroom so that they could have a mental picture of everything I loved and chose to surround myself with, and where I sat at that moment in time. Perfectly Imperfect reminds me of that so thanks for always listening and for sharing with me too 💌
