Iām not one to be loyal to any brand for anything but I swear by the ambery saffron perfume by dossierā¦ Iāve had 3 people ask if I was wearing baccarat rouge (the designer scent itās āreplicatingā) and 4 other people complimenting the smell. My brother and I both wear it and oh my god itās just so good

āļøWhen I finally got on antidepressants and stopped self-medicating my depression with an life-consuming addiction to amphetamines, I bought, like, 200 bottles of perfume. It wasnāt that before I got on proper medication, I couldnāt smell. It was just that when I was in the thick my depression, smelling something lovely just didnāt bring me any joy. It was too slight a pleasureālike listening to rain or baking cakesāto affect me. The only way I was able to afford 200 bottles of perfume was Dossier. They make dupes of iconic scents at price points of $29, $39 and $49. Their candles are great, too! My favorites are the Diptyque Do Son dupe, the Baccarat Rouge 540 dupe, the Love, Donāt Be Shy dupe (itās Rihannaās signature scent!) and, since I live in Florida now, I also love the Le Labo Santal 33 dupe because people chase me down the street to ask me what it is. Itās so sweet and heartwarming watching Floridians smell Santal 33 for the first time. But obviously I wouldnāt be caught dead wearing that perfume back in New York. Being seen as an offbeat and eccentric weird is too essential my fragile sense of self.

šæI have a lot of fragrances that I love wearing but the vast majority are tiny decants and I would be surprised if anyone associated them with me. However, I only have 2 fragrances that I have purchased multiple bottles of:
ā¢ Dossierās Woody Sage (a dupe of Jo Maloneās Wood Sage & Sea Salt): i like the dupe better because it smells the exact same as the original but it performs legit 3x better in both longevity AND sillage and itās 1/4th of the price
ā¢ Burberry Brit for women (both EDT and EDP are good): I used a bottle of this and then was like āI donāt need to replace it, I need to cycle for something newā but I found myself actively aching for it and feeling like a part of me was missing when I didnāt buy a replacement bottle for 3 months. Eventually I did and it felt like a such a specific relief to have it back and be able to wear it all the time again.
Theyāre pretty different profiles but both of them complement different facets of my personality. I wish you luck on the journey I love fragrance and am happy to share any recs I have potentially for the scent type and style and notes you desire !

šObsessed with perfume. For a while I was searching for a signature scent, but then the hunt just became too much fun, and now Iāve ended up with a full on vanity tray in my bathroom piled with a different smell for every mood. I used to wear only China Rain, a rollerball scent my mom got me in high school from a perfumery in LA called Spiritbody. I still have a bottle of that, but when I wear it Iām transported to a more insecure time lol. Right now I love Shadow in the Water from Diptyque for when I want to smell clean and romantic. I wear Smudge by Heretic almost every day because itās colder out and it makes me feel so warm and cozy, like iāve been sitting by a fire all day, and like I give good advice and paint landscapes. Perfume is definitely a splurge, but it lasts for so long, and I think itās really special to have a beautiful scent that people can recognize you by. I am going to gatekeep my secret combination of Byredo perfumes that I wear constantly, and Iām sorry about that. Itās just too good and too me.

last summer I was sitting at the pond near my apartment when I saw a green heron (i didnāt know what that was at the time) and thought to myself āthere are so many birds around at all times and I have no idea who any of them are!ā Iāve been having so much fun learning my local natural history and being able to tell whoās around from their songs and calls and peckings.
I wonder how many other things Iām always surrounded by that I donāt recognize because I havenāt noticed yet. Like fonts or types of bridges or insects.
