hozier, death cab for cutie, of monsters and men, passion pit, vance joy, & walk the moon!!! VERY 2014 and it was also *just* before all these people were big enough to really do stadium tours too, so it the experience was great bc it was an amphitheater that didn’t feel overcrowded

i was 17 and i was a diiiiie hard fan. knew every word to every song, had the perfect spot near the stage, my best friend and i screamed into each other's face the whole time, and the band just fucking rocked. it was the closing show of my first 3-day festival experience which at the time had basically been the best weekend of my life. other notable acts that weekend were flume, childish gambino, lorde, odesza, sbtrkt...... truly like the perfect coming of age summer movie moment

In December 2017 I went to a local festival in my city that was one day only and I saw cage the elephant live and that was one of the best concert experiences I’ve had to this day. I also saw Green Day earlier that year (primarily to watch catfish and the bottlemen open for them) and I was really pleasantly surprised with how great of a show they put on. When I moved to NYC the first concert I saw here was weyes blood, about six months after titanic rising came out, and it was one of the few times I’ve cried at a show. One of my first ā€œpost-Covidā€ shows was japanese breakfast at brooklyn steel, and that show just felt so whole and I think about it often. I got to see IDLES’ sold out Bowery ballroom show earlier this year and that one was just so fun and memorable for me. Love a good mosh pit, love a room full of people who are all there because they love the artist/band just as much as you do. Julia Jacklin’s solo acoustic show earlier this year was hauntingly beautiful and it made me a bigger fan of her for sure. Sorry this is 6 concerts but this is technically my top 10% so I think that’s good enough.

being traditionally cool is really quite boring and iterative, and it’s actually very cool and sexy to geek out about something you like or share bits of knowledge on a topic you’re passionate about

i had it for a little over a year until i was like wow this is actually terrible! i genuinely think it has negatively impacted society by ruining people’s attention spans, having a horrific algorithm, and most of all by the most mind-numbing or outright harmful trends - fake words that people now use IRL (ā€œunaliveā€), trad wife tiktok, shein hauls, body-focused fitness vids that encourage fatphobia and unhealthy habits, shallow political/feminist theory and queer discourse, ā€œalpha maleā€ podcaster tiktok, encouraging overconsumption in general, trends ruining local spots or niche things… the list goes on
