I am editing to add: some libraries can do interlibrary loans—as in borrow from different systems! I once borrowed a book from a library a 3hr drive away. If you haven’t already, ask Ur local librarian cos maybe they can help

Borrowing physical media from the public library

call me old fashioned, but i am deep in my library era. i’ve been borrowing e-books and audiobooks for years, but with the recent purchase of a secondhand DVD player, i’m now catching up on all the movies i missed or have long wanted to see by borrowing them from the library. taking it a step further, i’m building my post-Spotify music library by borrowing and burning, adding new tracks to my iPod.
bonus: talking with my librarian about some of the movies he likes that i’m checking out (we both loved “Days of Heaven”).

Use libby if you can

I use my iPad a lot as an e-reader with the app libby where you can borrow ebooks and audiobooks from the library - my account is tied to a us library and I’m not sure if it works for other countries but hopefully there’s similar apps
And the library in general is just such an amazing resource

you can hook your library card(s) up to the libby app and check out all the ebooks and audiobooks your heart desires. you can also add multiple library cards to your libby account—which is great for people who want to share a libby account with their mom who lives out of state and new yorkers, who are allowed to have library cards from all three systems (the nypl, the bpl, and the qpl) no matter which borough you live in. basically any book you could want is available in any format you could want at any given time. and if they don’t have something, send your neighborhood library an email and they will buy it for you within a week!!!!!! fuck amazon & audible!!! long live libby! long live libraries!!!!!
