Growing up as a very privileged rich kid my Turkish private school made us read this book at the age of 10 and it changed me, no exaggeration or bs. This book is written from the perspective of Zeze (the writer) a very poor kid living in Rio de Janeiro and he explores themes of loss, family dynamics, friendship, love, innocence, and imagination. I learn, feel, and cry more every time I read this book. It has made me into who I am and I owe the fact that I am no longer a spoiled brat who has no understanding of life to this book. It is so beautiful that I miss reading it or thinking about it when I am not, it is very nostalgic and sentimental to me🍊

I don't care if it's a basic pick but this book is literally so powerful. Just filled to the brim with raw humanity in all the forms it can take. Cannot recommend enough. Read it as a teenager and it changed my life

so near and dear to my heart. this book was so impactful on my love for religious studies and myth and storytelling. it affected me so deeply the way it handles topics like man’s relation to nature, human destiny, faith, culture, and the nature of truth and story. if i could choose a book to be curriculum it would be this one. pi patel was among my first “literally me”s lol

Amongst the abundance of an anonymous book exchange, it was this book that left an impressive oil stain… It taught me how to translate thoughts as a compass and not enemies…offering new but functional perspective… • The main character is hopeless and defiant in every human way • The obstacles merge with magic and science • The language is inviting and playful (look into ‘Troposphere’) I was preserved in a lawless comfort the entire read and I have mourned many times since finishing it…

last week i visited a friend in their new apartment, to my surprise this person does not talk to their cat and it SHOCKS ME that some people do not talk to their pets. “she can not understand me anyway” was the response i got after asking them why they did not talk to their cat. a very big reason why people decide on getting pets is companionship and i do understand that some people might choose silence with their companions but that is still not a good enough reason to not communicate with your housemate who just happens to be an animal. LOVE THEM AND TALK TO THEM THEY DESERVE IT, THEY DESERVE COMMUNICATION AND DESERVE TO LEARN BUZZ WORDS THAT MAKES THEM FEEL GOOD, APPRECIATED, HAPPY, SURPRISED, SCARED, EXCITED, AND EVEN UPSET!
