Growing up as a very privileged rich kid my Turkish private school made us read this book at the age of 10 and it changed me, no exaggeration or bs. This book is written from the perspective of Zeze (the writer) a very poor kid living in Rio de Janeiro and he explores themes of loss, family dynamics, friendship, love, innocence, and imagination.
I learn, feel, and cry more every time I read this book. It has made me into who I am and I owe the fact that I am no longer a spoiled brat who has no understanding of life to this book. It is so beautiful that I miss reading it or thinking about it when I am not, it is very nostalgic and sentimental to me🍊
