I saw this album on a list of the best pop punk from the 2000s and loved the cover. A wizard fighting robot sharks atop a squid was kind of the fun vibe I wanted for that summer so I gave the album a listen and absolutely loved it. It is such a perfect pop punk/easycore album and always makes it into my summer rotation.

👑You’re gonna jump if AG (and Finn Keane) made it. This album came out after everyone had already published their “best of 2023” and is therefore criminally overlooked. Although Soft Rock is wide-ranging in genre (from the guitar-driven rock of Sentence to the neo-medieval lament O Fortuna), emotion (from the proto-brat Heavy to the heartbreaking Lost Everything), and theme (love, friendship, myth, the music industry), it comes together into a remarkably cohesive and fully skipless jewel box of an album.
