This came on while I was on the subway. The repetitive tones washed over me like waves and I found myself staring. I took in the space around me completely but also started to go deeper inward. A common thing people say about New York is that it can be a very lonely city. You’re surrounded by people and yet sometimes you feel so invisible. I enjoy my solitude, but this track—10 minutes long, ambient and totally unexpected—made me sit with that feeling and examine it without judgement. The very act of listening to such a unique and profound piece of music on headphones is lonely. By definition. It reminded me that music is not just a thing to enjoy but something that can move you and guide you deeper. You probably have to be in the mood. It came on for me at the right time. But if you have the patience and need a moment to yourself to think and more importantly, feel, this track is for you. See what comes up

I’ve been maintaining a looong playlist spanning jazz, folk, ambient, r&b/doo-wop, shoegaze, soundtrack scores and more, I’m sure. The main theme is imagining tracks that would sound good in an empty old dusty bar, or maybe walking along a foggy river bank on a still night. Sonically, I’m aiming for interesting textures, catchy melodies, or sparse production. Throw it on shuffle and see what catches yr ear. Sampler of artists: Mary Lattimore, Eno/Fripp, Cassandra Jenkins, Harry Nilsson, Beach House ✨

I produce and host a radio show called Electrique Boutique, which plays minimal synth, cold wave, dark wave, post punk, diy/private press electronic music, and anything else that fits the vibe. If you’re into Kraftwerk, Closer by Joy Divison, Cold Cave, Molchat Doma, Black Marble… your stripped down, lo-fi electronic music, then maybe give it a listen! It airs every other Friday 6-8 PM PST on 104.9 KHUH Hollow Earth Radio in Seattle, but all of my episodes are archived on my website (in the link).

My right arm currently has ten bird tats on it. It’s a toss up between these two: - The indigo bunting, which is dedicated to a friend of mine who helped me through a really bad time in my life. We bonded over birdwatching when we first met, and the indigo bunting is her favorite bird. - The ivory-billed woodpecker, simply because it’s my favorite bird. Unfortunately extinct, though every few years a possible sighting is reported in the southern US. Its nickname is The Lord God Bird, because that’s what a birdwatcher would shout if they ever saw one.

At its best, it rivals the golden years of The Simpsons in my book, and that’s about the highest praise I can give a show. So so funny and creative, relentlessly bleak, and a relatable love of 80s alternative culture.
