i always enjoyed this painting, but it's a piece that made me appreciate seeing art in person because the scale of it is so striking and adds so much. it's wonderful to look at on a screen, but when i was in the national gallery in edinburgh and i turned the corner and saw this i was absolutely blown away

- Eugène Delacroix, Apollo Slaying the Serpent Python: I could stay in this gallery for hours and just stare at the ceiling if that was socially acceptable - Michaelangelo, Sistine Chapel: You know her, you love her! Especially when it’s summer and you’re absolutely in need of fresh are and so you round the corner to see this diva!! la vita è bella - Sandro Botticelli, The Birth of Venus: I love the pastels in this so much and the way the hair flows and the shell and just 🤌🏻🤌🏻🤌🏻 I will laugh every time this is emulated in media!!! - Kehinde Wiley, Philip the Fair: I saw this at a museum when I was a mess emotionally and it was so beautiful and vast and gorgeous that I teared up! - Pierre Auguste Cot, The Storm: This is for the yearning and when I see it I’ll year again every time without fail - Hans Holbein the Younger, The Ambassadors: I love these two freaks and the fun little sneaky third guy!! I learned about this in a history class that I ended up despising bc my brain doesn’t work to memorize dates are u kidding me!! I remember all the paintings and this one was always such a fixture for me - Artemisia Gentileschi, Judith and Her Maidservant: it’s definitely the theater adult in me that lives and loves Baroque but with that in mind - the lighting in this is so powerful

It’s hanging in a central lobby on the ground floor of the royal marsden hospital in Kensington, behind a grand piano with a vase of flowers on perpetual rotation. A staircase covers three of the four walls, the staircase is solid and so the steps on it always sound very gentle and there is surprisingly a lot of distant laughter heard from there. Meditated over this painting a lot while waiting for my sister to receive treatment and while she was in surgery. It doesn’t take long at all to really feel like the painting sees you and hears your thoughts. I let a lot out on this lady. It isn’t just a painting of princess diana, it’s my friend.
